Udupi: CM Inaugurates Udupi District Indoor Stadium

Udupi, 21 August 2011: There is plan to construct 25 district stadiums and 118 Taluk stadiums in the state, announced Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda. CM who also holds the portfolios of Sports and Youth Service, was speaking upon inaugurating the Udupi District Indoor Stadium on Saturday and also laid foundation stone for new swimming pool.
 
In our state which already has the highest stadiums with synthetic tracks in the country, the government is arranging to provide scientific training to the sports persons and for this purpose Sports Academy for Excellence has been established. In the state there are 2 state level sports training centers and 25 district level sports training centers, these also will be increased, said Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

 


 
In last budget rupees 108.11 crores have been reserved for state sports facilities. The 33 athletes who won medals in the recent Commonwealth Games and Asian Games have been given rupees 1.90 crores as encouragement, said Chief Minister.
 
The program was presided over by MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat. District In charge Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya, Fisheries Minister Ananda Asnotiker, International Badminton Players Vimal Kumar and Anuf Shridar were the Chief Guests of the program.
 
MLAs Lalaji Mendon, Lakshiminarayana, Kota Shrinivasa Poojary, Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary, Vice President Jyothi Shetty, Taluk Panchayath President Devdas Hebbar, Municipal Corporation President Kiran Kumar, Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar, Fishing Federation President Yashpal Suvarna and others were also present on the dias.
 
On this occasion Chief Minister DVS was felicitated on behalf of Municipal Corporation. Later CM honoured those who provided financial help for the Indoor Stadium. Chief Secretary of Youth Service and Sports Department I. Perumal, Jilla Panchayath Administrative Officer Prabhakara Sharma, District Youth Service and Sports Department Deputy Director Sithanadi Vittala Shetty were also on the dias. Deputy Commissioner Dr. M.T. Reju welcomed the guests and the gathering.
 
Upon inauguration of the Indoor stadium CM sanctioned all the sports appeals furnished by MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat during the function on the spot. CM has announced that the amounts will be immediately released; rupees 1 crore for install synthetic to the track of District Outdoor stadium, rupees 2.5 crores for the construction of new swimming pool and the balance payment of rupees 36 lakhs of the Indoor stadium which is constructed with total cost of rupees 3 crore. Also CM said that he is ready to provide any sports facilities necessary for the district.
