Udupi: Krishna Janmastami Grand Celebrations 14 – 22 August

Udupi, 12 August 2011: World famous drummer Shivamani’s music fiesta, entertainment by hundreds wearing tiger costumes, folk games competitions, traditional Vittalapindi and inauguration by Dr. D. Virendra Hegde of Dharmastala are the highlights of the Udupi Shri Krishna Mutt’s Shri Krishna Janmastami this time. The concept behind all these highlights is from Shree Lakshmivara Theertha of Paryaya Shiroor Mutt.

 

 
The celebrations of Shri Krishnastami will begin on 14th August evening at 5.30 pm with the inauguration of the religious – cultural program by Shri Vishwapriya Theertha of Adamaur Mutt and will end on 22nd August at 5.00 pm in the evening with the Visarjana of Shri Krishna’s clay statue in Madhvasarovara.

 

 
On 21st at 11.30 am Dr. Virendra Hegde will be arriving to Udupi, and he will be taken in a grand procession by 500 children with Krishna costumes through Rathabidi. Later at 12.00 noon tens of various competitions will be inaugurated which will be held on the occasion of Krishnastami. In this program Raja S. Rajagopalacharya of Manthralaya, Suyamindra Acharya, A.D.G.P. H. N. Sathyanarayana Rao, Entrepreneur Subbayya Naidu and others will be participating.
 
On 22nd morning at 11.00 am Shivamani and team will be performing on the stage opposite Shiroor Mutt for one hour with the instruments which are in the collection of Shree. In the evening from 4.00 pm to night 11.00 pm at the parking area in the grand stage Shivamani will perform using his own hundreds of instruments and demonstrate the musical concert.
 
On 22nd at 2.30 pm the main event of Astami the Utsav of Lord Krishna in Rathabidi, Mosaru Kudike, Vittala Pindi and other programs will be conducted. Later the Tiger costume competition, Folk dance competition, Marakalu competitions will be conducted. Kemaru Shreesha Vittaladasa Swameeji, Entrepreneurs; Jayakrishna Shetty, A. J. Shetty, Devananda Shetty, Kadambodi Mahabala Poojary, Nagesh Shetty, Jaya N. Shetty, T.V. Rao, Divakara Shetty and others will be participating in this program.
 
On 13th Paintings, Poetic questions, Ashu speeches, Story competitions will be held. On 14th signing competitions proclaiming the greatness of Lord Shri Krishna will be conducted. On 20th competions on threading of wick, Lakshmi Shobhane, flower binding will be held.
 
On 14th morning at 8.00 am the folk sports festival will be inaugurated at the entrance of Krishna Mutt by Shiroor Shree. Later leaves game, Bubili, Tonka, Lagori, Gunny bag race, Kutti donne, Berchendu, Chess competitions will be held. Evening at 5.00 pm Shri Krishnothsava photography exhibition by the news paper photographers will be conducted. On 18th in the evening at 5.00 pm Shri Krishna Janmastami paintings will be inaugurated.
 
On 20th Dice, Carom, Taxi – Auto tyre replacing competition, Frog jump, Slow cycle race, Malla yudda, Banana eating competitions will be held. On 21st breaking of clay pot blind folded, Krishna leele group dance competitions, Rangoli competition, Petla hitting competition, Muddu Krishna – Muddu Radha competitions will be held.
 
About 50 lakhs rupees will be spent for the Krishna Janmastami this time. This will be collected from the entrepreneurs who shall be sponsoring. All the competitions will be conducted with the direction of Shri Lakshmivara theertha and under the supervision of Divana Lathavya Acharya.
 
On 21th night at 11.47 pm Arghya Pradhana, Arghya to Child Krishna, which is the main program in Shri Krishna Janmastami will be conducted by Paryaya Shiroor Shree during the Maha Pooje. Later the dignitaries of Mutt and the devotees will be conducting the Arghya Pradhana.
