Ln. Joseph Martis takes charge as the President of Lions Club, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 25 June 2023: Ln. Joseph Martis was installed as the new president of the Lions Club, Moodubelle for the Lionistic year 2023-24 during an impressive Installation function held in the Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle on Saturday, 24 June 2023. The installation of new office bearers of the club was done by Ln. Melwyn D’Souza, Governor Elect of Lion District 317D. The other prominent office bearers installed were Ln. Valerian Noronha (Secretary), Ln. Lavina Noronha (Joint Secretary) and Ln. Rajendra Shetty (Treasurer). The outgoing president Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino, Secretary Ln. Devadas Hebbar and Treasurer Ln. Elias Lobo handed over their charge respectively to Ln. Joseph Martis, Ln. Valerian Noronha and Ln. Rajendra Shetty.
Prior to the installation ceremony, Ln. Melwyn D’Souza in his keynote address highlighted the activities of the Lions Clubs International. He posed two important questions Whether the Lions Clubs International should continue its social service as there are many agencies which carry on social service activities and whether the youth will have interest and time to join Lions Clubs and carry on the activities. He said that Lions Clubs International has been one of the largest service organizations in the world and its existence is essential in carrying out various humanitarian activities. Regarding the second question, Ln. Melwyn said that it is important that more and more youth and women should be encouraged to join Lions Clubs.
During the Installation programme, Ln. Melwyn D’Souza also installed Leo office bearers and inducted four new Leo-Lion Members.
Fr. Pradeep Cardoza, Assistant Parish priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle in his benedictory address appreciated the good work that is being done by the Lions Club, Moodubelle and said that as the President of the club during the Silver Jubilee Year, the Lions Club, Moodubelle under the leadership of its President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino had donated a School Bus to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Fr. Pradeep Cardoza wished well and blessed the Lions Team led by Ln. Joseph Martis in carrying out the activities of the Lions Club.
In his acceptance speech, the newly installed President, Ln. Joseph Martis thanked the former office-bearers and put forth his vision of activities to the next Lionistic Year. He made an appeal to all the members to join hands with him in carrying out various socially useful activities.
On this occasion meritorious students were felicitated. They included Amshi S Shetty who scored 4th Rank in the State in PUC and Tanish Shetty who stood first in SSLC examination in St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and children of Lions Club members-Leo Kirthan Jogi, Leo Disha Pai and Leo Joy Fernandes. Ln. Denis Martis read the names of the students who were felicitated.
As part of social service activity rice bags were distributed to two beneficiaries and cash amount to an accident victim.
Ln. Dr. Nery Cornelio, Governor Elect of Lion District 317 C, Ln. Oswald D’Souza-Cabinet Secretary of Lion District 317D, Leo Aditya Sheth-Leo District President and Ln. Ivan D’Almeida-Zone Chairman gave felicitation messages.
The dignitaries on the dais honoured the chief guest, Ln. Melwyn D’Souza.
The outgoing President Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino, Secretary Ln. Devadas Hebbar and Treasurer Ln. Elias Lobo were also honoured on this occasion.
Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino welcomed the guests and the gathering; Ln. Gerald Fernandes introduced the chief guest Ln. Melwyn D’Souza, Leo Members recited opening prayer, Ln. Valerian Noronha proposed the vote of thanks and Leo Joy Fernandes compered the programme.
