Udupi: Grand Lions Region Conference “Sneha Sinchana” Held in Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 04 Feb 2023: The prestigious Region Conference “Sneha Sinchana” of Region V, Lion District 317C was held in the Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle under the host the Lions Club, Moodubelle as the Region Chairman Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza happens to be one of the dynamic members of the club. The grand Region Conference was held on Saturday, 4 February 2023 from 4 pm to 9pm. Around 250 Lion members spread over two Zones covering 12 Lions Clubs were present for the event.

 

The Region Conference commenced with the registration of the members from 3.30 pm and high tea.

 

One of the chief attractions of the Region Conference was the Banner Presentation by all the 12 Lions Clubs included within the region. The members of each club carried their banner and presented certain themes such as the village life, Swachch Bharath, Communal harmony and ‘Say no to bad habits’. The Banner presentation was done in a grand manner to the sound of ‘chende’. The Region Chairperson Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza along with the First Lady of the Region Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza received the banners and gave away gifts to Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers of each club. As the Banner Presentation was in progress, the Zone Chairmen, Ln. Laxman Poojary of Zone II and Ln. Anil D’Souza od Zone I presented the reports of various service activities conducted  in their respective Zones as the pictures compiled by Ln. Ivan Menezes of the Lions Club, Moodubelle were prominently displayed on the LCD screen on the stage.

 

 

Moodubelle followed by the dignitaries occupying the dais. Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza presided over the Region Conference. Other dignitaries on the dais included Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza-First Lady of the Region V, the chief guest Principal Stephen Quadros Permude, Principal of the First Grade Government College, Kaup, guest of honour Ln. V.G. Shetty, Past District Governor, Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino-President of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Devadas Hebbar-Secretary of the Lions Club, Moodubelle and Chairman of the Region Conference Committee, Ln. Anil D’Souza-Zone I Chairman, Ln. Laxman Poojary-Chairman of Zone II, and the Region Chairmen of other regions.

 

For the Flag Salutation, the Indian National Flag was brought to the dais by Leo Loy Fernandes-NCC Cadet.

 

Following the welcome address by Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino, Ln. Devadas Hebbar in his introductory remarks gave detailed account of the preparations and conduct of the Region Conference in a grand manner.

 

The Region Conference was formally inaugurated by the First Lady of the Region V, Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza along with other dignitaries on the dais by lighting the lamp. In her inaugural message Mrs. Jacintha D’Souza said that she was happy to inaugurate the Region Conference and wished well to all who participated in the RegionConference.

 

 

Ln. Anitha Mathias of Bantakal Jasmine Lions Club introduced the Region Chairman Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza.

 

In his address, Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza narrated the origin of the Lions Clubs International and its importance in the present world. He expressed his gratitude to the Zone Chairmen and members of all the 12 Lions Clubs included in the region V  for their sustained service activities and support. He further said that he was extremely happy to have Principal Stephen Quadros, an eminent educationist, writer and orator as the chief guest and Ln. V.G. Shetty, the PDG as the guest of honour. He also highlighted the role of a Lion member in the betterment of the society.

 

Ln.Wilson Rodrigues of the Lions Club, Shirva-Manchakal introduced the chief guest of the function Principal Stephen Quadros.

 

In his keynote address Principal Stephen Quadros spoke on the two prominent concepts of Leadership and Service. He said that ministry means service and service means dharma. The real leader is the one who is a servant, shepherd and the one who carries everyone with him. Service is love coupled with compassion. He also elaborated the meaning of the words-apathy, antipathy, sympathy and empathy and how the last word is the one which enables one to help those who are in distress.

 

Following his address, Principal Stephen Quadros was honoured by the dignitaries on the dais.

 

 

The service activities conducted during the Region Conference included the handing over of water-coolers to all the 12 Lions Clubs in the region sponsored by Ln. Sapna Suresh and handing over financial help to a sick person and another needy person under the scheme of ‘Home for Homeless’.

 

Following the reading of the Appreciation resolution by Ln. Dr. Eugene D’Souza, member of the Lions Club, Moodubelle, the Region Chairperson Ln. Er. Elias D’Souza was honoured by the dignitaries on the dais.

 

Ln.Satya Shekar Shetty of the Lions Club, Padubidri introduced the guest of honor Ln. V.G. Shetty.

 

In his speech Ln. V.G. Shetty highlighted the role and responsibilities of the members of the Lions Clubs. Quoting from various sources, Ln. V.G. Shetty emphasized on the meaning of life and what an individual can do for the betterment of the society and nation.  He said that the leadership in Lionism should aim at the betterment of the fellow beings.

 

 

Ln. Valerian Noronha-Secretary of the Region Conference Committee presented the report on the registration at the Region Conference.

 

Ln. Santrupti Manoj Shetty of the Lions Club, Padubidri read the Appreciation Resolution of the Host Club and the Region Conference Committee, following which Ln. Devadas Hebbar-Chairperson of the Region Conference Committee was felicitated.

 

Those Lions Clubs within the Region which had 100 percent registration,  the Best Banner Presentation-Lions Club Shirva Manchakal (First Prize), Lions Club Bantakal BC Road (Second Prize) and Lions Club Mundkur Kadandale (Thirs Prize), the first member to do the registration-Ln. Gilbert Pinto of Shirva Manchakal and the sponsors were felicitated.

 

 

In their felicitation messages, Ln. Muhammad Haneef, the Second VDG, Ln. Sapna Suresh, Ln. Rajiv kotian and Ln. Vidyalatha complmented Ln. Elias D’Souza, Ln. Devadas Hebbar and the Lions Club, Moodubelle for organizing such a grand Region Conference.

 

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ln. Melwyn Aranha-Secretary of the Region V and the programme was compered by Ln. Edward Larsen D’Souza-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College.

 

During the dinner entertainment was provided by Shashi Kumar of Mandya and Ms. Wilsita Snehal D’Souza from Kanajar by singing Hindi and Kannada film songs as well as Konkani Songs. Some of the Lions Club members did karaoke singing. Ln. Alwyn Mathias and Ln. Ivan menezes of the Comblis Youtube Chanel provided technical support to the programme.
