Moodubelle: Sale of Women Farmers’ Products Inaugurated in St. Lawrence Church Premises

Udupi/M’Belle, 17 Dec 2022: In a first of its kind in the Diocese of Udupi, out of 52 parishes, the Stree Sanghattan of St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle became the first Unit to market its own organic agricultural and homemade products in collaboration with Kaup Farmers’ Producer Company Ltd. (Kaup FPO) in the premises of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle.
on Saturday, 17 December 2022 at 5pm, the first sale of such products was inaugurated and blessed after a brief prayer service by Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto-Executive Director of SAMPADA, Udupi. He expressed gratitude to Rev. Fr. George D’Souza for supporting the project.
In his introductory remarks, Rev. Fr. Reginald Pinto said that the Nisarga Mahasangha also known as the Catholic Stree Sanghattan, Moodubelle Unit came together in St. Lawrence Parish Hall on Sunday, 11 December 2022 to discuss about the marketing of their organic agricultural and other homemade products. This concept was generously supported by Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle. For this purpose, he allotted two shops in the church premises where the members of the Stree Sanghattan could sell their products. The Kaup PFO will take the leadership for marketing these products. This project will help the small and medium women farmers to earn their livelihood.
Besides, Rev. Fr. George D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Pradeep Cardoza-Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Sunil Kumar D’Souza, Sr. Irene Viegas, Gerald Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Charles Quadras-Secretary, Mrs. Priya Quadras-Animator in Sampada, Udupi, Mrs. Sabina Martis-President of Stree Sanghattan, Moodubelle Unit, Mrs. Reena D’Souza-Vice President, Mrs. Benedicta Fernandes-Secretary, Mrs. Philomena Noronha-Treasurer, Mrs. Lydia Fernandes-Representative of ’Mothiyam’, Stree Sanghattan members and a number of parishioners were present.
Within few minutes of the ianguration of the sale, all the products were sold off which is an encouraging sign of the poularily of the organic and home made products of the women farmers.
