Milagres Church Mangaluru celebrates ‘Monti Fest’

Mangaluru, 09 Sep 2022: Our Lady of Miracles Mangaluru celebrated the Monti Feast in association with the Monti feast committee Attavar on the 8th of September 2022. A festive procession started from the residence of Mrs. Meena Malani Attavar with a short prayer service at their residence. Then the procession started from Attavar KMC junction towards milagres church.

 

Mangalorean Christians celebrate Monti Fest on the 8th of September. In Konkani, Mother Mary means Monti. Mangaloreans who speak Konkani celebrate the feast in a unique style. It is also used to commemorate the harvest festival, which is a time of thanksgiving for all the fresh crops. Monti feast committee Attavar celebrates this festival in past years every year Mother Mary worshipped through nine days of novena at any one of the houses of the devotees of Monti Saibeen Ward. A few years ago when there was a drought aroused Attavar area never had any issues with water in memory of the blessing worshiping of the mother marry started by the initiative taken up by the local leaders. This novena made all the ward members join in the prayer service which united their faith and bonded them together. Hence novena service continued. Devotees of the Attavar area are privileged to take the statue of mother Mary and do the prayer service for nine days. Later to accommodate other wards this prayer service was extended to other wards so that they too get the blessings of the mother to marry now every day two of the wards get the opportunity to conduct the prayer service.

 

 

This year it was more special for the Monti Saibieen committee because of the freedom to celebrate the festival from earlier restrictions imposed by the government. Fresh Rice grains were blessed near KMC junction by Parish priest Rev Fr Bonaventure Nazareth later along with ward Gurkars and Monthi Saibeen committee Procession started to Milagres church. All devotees participated in this procession with great faith.

 

New corn was blessed by assistant parish priest Rev Fr Ivan at Milagres jubilee hall. Children offered the flowers to Mother Mary as the hymn ‘Moriye hogolsiyan’ began.

 

Holy Eucharist mass is celebrated by all the clergy at the jubilee hall. In the sermon father Uday stressed the importance of the feast and by giving the example of Mother Mary he showed our mother is also very important to our family. She protects, guides, and nurtures every one of us.

 

After the mass Mudhoum were honoured by the parish priest rev father Bonaventure Nazareth. Soon after the mass breakfast was arranged for all parishioners.
