Mangaluru: Easter Sunday celebrated with utmost religious fervor in parishes across diocese

Mangaluru, 17 Apr 2022: Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the triumphant victory over evil was celebrated in different parishes across Mangaluru diocese on Saturday evening.
The Easter Sunday ceremony was also held on April 17, to facilitate the faithful in attending the celebration who were unable to attend on Saturday evening.
A large numbers of faithful attended the Easter Celebrations that was hindered owing to Covid-19 in the past two-years.
Easter celebrations commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, began with Easter Vigil Mass at Rosario Cathedral on Saturday, April 16 evening.
Christians across the diocese congregated in churches to celebrate this joyful feast with lots of fervor and devotion.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore led the ceremony starting from blessing of Pascal candle which signifies the victory of light over darkness.
He also blessed the fire and holy water before the Holy Eucharist began.
In his homily, Bishop called on faithful to learn how to ‘enter the mystery’ of Easter, the commemoration of the Christian belief that Jesus rose from the dead, three days after his crucifixion.

Easter Vigil at Valencia Church

After 40 days of the Lenten Season, including the Holy Week the Christian fraternity came together to celebrate the resurrection of the lord.
The celebration at Valencia started at 7.00pm.Before the festive mass all the lights were switched off at the church grounds. Fr Santhosh D’Souza lit the Easter Candle from the “New Fire” and carried it to the Altar in a procession. As the candle was taken down the aisle, parishioners lit the candles from the flame, illuminating the area in candlelight.Water was blessed and the Holy water was then sprinkled on all those present.
Fr Roque sang the Exsultet - the Easter Hymn. Five readings from the Sacred Scriptures gave a glimpse of the salvation story of Israel and mankind in general. As the Gloria resounded in the air the image of Risen Jesus got unveiled.
The main celebrant was Fr Santhosh Rodrigues Director of Diocesan Pastoral Centre Bajjodi. Fr Roque Dsa, Fr Lancy DSouza and Fr William Barracas we’re the co-celebrants.
