Udupi, 06 Apr 2022: ‘We can find nearly 10 substitute words for a single word.  It’s our responsibility to sustain Kannada literature that could be done by making Kannada indispensable in our day-to-day living. It would indeed sustain Kannada,’ said Dr A S N Hebbar, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Udupi district founder president and veteran journalist.

Dr Hebbar was speaking during the installation ceremony of new office bearers of Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Kaup taluk unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, here on Sunday April 3.

’We have reached a situation where there does not exist a world without English. We are sandwiched between our love for western culture by disregarding our own mother tongue, culture and ancient tradition,’ said Dr Hebbar. He urged Kaup taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat to work towards sustaining Kannada with likeminded people.

The intellectual and folklore scholar K L Kundantaya said that Kaup taluk has close proximity to Kannada because hundreds of Kannada tablets that could have been preserved are likely buried in earth and lost forever. It’s essential to conserve such Kannada tablets for sustaining Kannada. Kannada Sahitya Parishat Kaup unit got to chalk out a plan in this regard, said Kundantaya.

Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Nilavara Surendra Adiga said that Kannada Sahitya Parishat Udupi district unit will make honest efforts in the coming days to save state-run Kannada medium schools from shutting down. It would create a master plan in developing basic infrastructure facilities at the Kannada medium schools by studying their issues, said Adiga.

Surendra Adiga handed over the Kannada flag to Kaup taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat newly-elected president B Pundalika Marate to assume the charge. He also administered oaths to all new office bearers.

Speaking on the occasion, Marate said that students literary unions units will be opened in different education institutions at the limits of Kaup taluk, platforms will be provided to promising poets and litterateurs and also striving to construct Kannada Bhavan in taluk.

Ka Sa Pa Udupi district honorary secretary Narendra Kumar Kota, district cell president Manohar P conveyed best wishes for the programme.

Ka Sa Pa Karkala taluk president Kondalli Prabhakar Shetty, Udupi unit president Raviaj H P, Shirva gram panchayat president K R Patkar, Belle gram panchayat president Sudhakar Poojary, Bantakal temple managing trustee Sasidar Wagle, Rotary assistant governor Dr Arun Hegde, columnist Mohandas Kini, litterateur Richard Danti Pamboor, Ka Sa Pa office bearers and leaders of other pro-Kannada organizations were also present.
