Mangaluru: 73rd Republic Day celebrated with patriotic fervor

Mangaluru, 26 Jan 2022: The 73rd Republic Day celebration was held with patriotic fervor and eye-catching march past at Nehru Maidan, here on Wednesday, January 26.

 

Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister V Sunil Kumar unfurled the national flag and inspected guard of honor at the district level Republic Day celebrations organized here.

 

 

The minister Sunil Kumar said, ‘I am son of a teacher and today I have become the district in-charge minister. The reason behind this is Dr B R Ambedkar’s Constitution. We should conduct activities that strengthen the constitution. Many tried to weaken our constitution through activities like naxalism, terrorism and emergency, but we have successfully tackled everything to show that the constitution is above all,’ said Sunil.

 

‘After Basavaraj Bommai became the chief minister, several pro-people projects have been undertaken. Everyone should join hands to transform the district to an agricultural-friendly, cultural-friendly, tourism-friendly and business-friendly district,’ added the minister.

 

‘The district has successfully tackled the pandemic. As many as 156 crore people have been vaccinated in the country. A total of 97 percent of the population in the district has received the first dose of vaccination and 81 percent have received the second dose. There is no scarcity of oxygen in the district as oxygen units has been set up in hospitals. Under Amruth Scheme, 25 primary health centers will be upgraded. Eight lac people have benefitted under Ayushman Bharat scheme,’ he emphasized.

 

‘As desired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there will be extension of agricultural activities and farmers’ income will be doubled. The government has planned to work on eco and temple tourism. The government also took steps to improve national highways, state highways and work worth Rs 3,500 crore has been undertaken in the state. Smart City project work is in progress in Mangaluru with the help of state and central government funds,’ said the minister.

 

‘It is our responsibility to implement the anti-cow slaughter law in the state. We have identified 98 acres of land in Puttur to set up a goshala,’ he stressed.

 

Padma Shri awardee Amai Mahalinga Nayak was felicitated on the same occasion.

 

Police presented an attractive march past on the occasion.

 

MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, Mangaluru mayor Premananda Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra, city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCPs Hariram Shankar and B P Dinesh Kumar, superintendent of police Rishikesh Sonawane and others were present.
