Udupi: 80 people undergo free heart checkup camp at Shirva

Udupi, 31 Dec 2021: ‘We have seen present lifestyles and junk food creating health issues. There is a need for a regular health checkup and everybody should take care of their health. The camp is a step towards this,’ said Fr Alexander Denis D’Sa, correspondent of St Mary’s and Don Bosco Group of Institutions, Shirva, near here.

 

Fr D’Sa was speaking at the free heart checkup camp held at St Mary’s College, Shirva today after inaugurating the camp.

 

The camp was jointly organized by Lions Club Shirva, St Mary’s College, St Mary’s PU College Alumni Association, Stree Songhoton of Shirva parish, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.

 

Dr Gosavi Siddhanth, senior resident physician, KMC Manipal was the chief guest of the occasion.

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gosavi emphasized on taking care of the heart and undergoing regular ECG.

 

He urged the people to take care of their heart by involving in activities like swimming, cycling, jogging, walking to ensure a healthy mind and healthy body. Also advised to take traditional food and seasonal fruits to maintain proper health.

 

St Mary’s College Alumni Association president Melvyn Noronha, George Anil D’Souza, president, Lions Club Shirva, Jyothi D’Souza, president Stree Songhottan, Shirva parish, Mathias Lobo, secretary, St Mary’s PU College Alumni Association, Yashodha, students welfare officer, Lt K Praveen Kumar, associate NCC officer, NSS officers Premanath Kotian, Raksha, rovers and rangers leaders Prakasha, Sangeetha Poojary, Youth Red Cross convener Vittalnayak were present. 

 

From morning 9.00am till 2.00pm about 80 people made use of the camp.

 

The cadet senior under officer Vishal S Moolya, cadet senior under officer Harshitha, company sergeant quartermaster Mohith N Salian, corporal Dheeraj Acharya, NSS volunteers Vaishnavi, Minaz, Sinchana, Shreyas, Mohammed Aghnan, rovers volunteer Darryl and the College both teaching and administrative staff  assisted  in organizing the camp.

 

Dr Herald Ivan Monis welcomed the gathering. Charles Mohan Noronha proposed the vote of thanks. Shirva Lions Club former president Norbert Machado compered the program.
