Udupi: Lions Region Conference of Region II successfully held at Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle

Udupi, M/Belle: 10 Apr 2021: The Regional Conference of the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 317C, Region II was successfully held at the Lions Seva Bhavan, Moodubelle on Saturday, 10 April 2021 from 4pm to 8 pm. The Regional Conference was organized by the Lions Club of Subhasnagar whose member, Ln. Stephen Dinesh Castelino, mjf is the Region Chairman. Members from two Zones-Zone I and Zone II comprising of four Lions Clubs each participated in the conference. Altogether 247 members and 40 Leo members attended the Regional Conference.
The Regional Conference was presided over by Ln. Stephen Dinesh Castelino, mjf along with his wife Ln. Linet Castelino. The other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Devadas Nayak-Principal of MGM College, Udupi as the chief guest, Fr. Jithesh Castelino-Assistant Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Ln. Devaputra Kotian-Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Ln. Dedas Hebbar-Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Ln. Joseph Noronha-Treasurer, Ln. Dr. Vincent Alva-President of the Lions Club of Subhasnagar, Ln. Augustine Barboza-Secretary, Ln. Melwyn Aranha-Regional Pilot Region II, Ln. Rajendra Shetty-Zone Chairman Zone I, Ln. Lancy Corda-Zone Chairman Zone II, T.G. Acharya-Lions District Cabinet Secretary.
The Regional Conference commenced with the prayer sung by Leo members followed by the flag salutation by Ln. Gerald Fernandes. The flag was brought to the dais by Leo Joy Fernandes.
Following the welcome address by Ln. Devaputra Kotian, Fr. Jithesh Castelino in benedictory message appreciated the good work done by the Lions Clubs International and asked for God’s blessings on the Regional Conference.
The first lady of the Region, Ln. Linet Castelino formally inaugurated the Regional Conference by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries on the dias.
The most important attraction of the Regional Conference was the Banner Presentation by all the eight clubs included in the region. Members of each club were given a theme which they had to present. Those clubs which tried to follow the themes included the Lions Club of Shirva Manchakal presented the awareness to give up plastic; the Lions Club of Udyavar presented the fishing activities, the Lions Club of Moodubelle represented the life of agriculturists; the Lions Club Sangama of Udupi presented the theme of Communal Harmony and the Lions Club of Subhasnagar presenting the precaution to be taken in the era of Covid 19. Region Chairman along with his wife honoured the leaders of the presentation with shawl and gifts. At the end, two prizes were allotted by the judges-second to the Lions Club of Udyavar and first to the Lions Club of Moodubelle.
Following his introduction by Ln. Dr. Vincent Alva, the Region Chairman Ln. Stephen Castelino addressed the gathering recalling his service to the Lions Club of Subhasnagar in particular and Region II in general. He expressed gratitude to all those who helped in organizing the Region Conference.
The chief guest of the day, Dr. Devadas Nayak was introduced by Ln. Augustine Barboza. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Devadas Nayak spoke on five fundamental principles which would make the life of an individual more fulfilled and would help in building and strengthening the nation. These five principles are: To be honest, to be practical, to be collective, that is, belief in unity in diversity, to be truthful and to be societal, that is, serving the society in a meaningful way.
On this occasion, the chief guest Dr. Devadas Nayak, Fr. Jithesh Castelino, Ln. Stephen and Ln. Linet Castelino, Ln. Devaputra Kotian and Ln. Devadas Hebbar were felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais.
Lions District Governor, Ln. N.M. Hegde who paid a visit to the Region Conference, in his message lauded the great work done by Ln. Stephen Castelino including providing more than fifty toilets to the needy people and constructing a new house at the cost of nearly 7 lakhs of rupees under the scheme of ‘Home for the Homeless’ which was handed over to the needy family today itself. Ln. N.M. Hegde presented a certificate of appreciation and medal from the Lions Clubs International President to Ln. Stephen Castelino.
Ln. Vishwanath Shetty-First Vice District Governor, Ln. K.C. Veerabhdrappa, Ln. T.G. Acharya and Ln. Neri Cornelio in their messages appreciated the service rendered by Ln. Stephen Castelino.
Ln. Elias D’Souza-Secretary of the Region II, Ln. Madhusudhan Hegde-PDG and a number of Lions Clubs office bearers were present.
In the lucky draw of the coupons, Ln. Valerian Noronha of the Lions Club, Moodubelle got the prize.
Ln. Devdas Hebbar proposed the vote of thanks. Ln. Lilly Lobo and Ln. Shalet D’Souza anchored the programme.
