Udupi: Control sought on illegal and black market sale of medicines

Udupi, 30 June 2011: Committee members of Udupi Unit of Karnataka State Medical Marketing Representatives Union met Deputy Commissioner and submitted an appeal through the D.C. to the Prime Minister. In the appeal they have asked for the control on the companies involving in selling the medicines illegally and in black market. And an effective system to be implemented to prevent low quality and duplicate drugs, they have appealed.

 

 

Also mentioned in the appeal that, buying of Indian drug companies by the foreign companies needs to be stopped. Public ownership drug manufacturing companies and vaccine manufacturing units are to be restored and national drug companies to be given protection. Should ensure that the important drugs are available. The products of the drug companies which are recognized from a long period should not be banned without any genuine reason and with this the jobs of the employees are to be saved, urged in the appeal.

 

Price on all kind of drugs to be controlled. The tax on the medicines of minimum M.R.P. should be withdrawn and also on other medicines the minimum tax to be charged and the system of including it on the manufacturing cost is to be dropped, says the appeal.

 

As per the instructions of the National Working Committee in August 2011 nationwide unity day will be observed for the demands on the medicine issue and to fulfill their demands from the drug companies about 1.2 lakhs medical representatives will be calling a strike, mentioned in the appeal.

 

Among the committee members District Unit Secretary Madhusoodan Heroor, Raviraj H. P., Annayya Das, Sandip Shenoy, Eshvar Bhatt, Louis Dias, Vivek Shenoy, Gopala Krishna Malya, Kamal Jambige, Manivel and Shreekanth Poojary were present.
