Udupi/M’Belle: History Lecturers’ Orientation Programme Held in St. Lawrence PU College

Udupi/M’Belle, 17 Mar 2021: Udupi District PU Colleges History Lecturers’ Forum and St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle jointly organized Orientation Programme as well as felicitation to retired teachers and those students who had scored 100 marks in the subject of History in Second PU Examination held in March 2020 on Wednesday, 17 March 2021 in St. Lawrence PU College Hall, Moodubelle.
The Orientation Programme was inaugurated by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais. The inaugural programme was presided over by Naveen Correa - President of PU Colleges History Teachers’ Forum, Udupi District. Other dignitaries on the dais included: Bhagavantha Kattimani - Deputy Director of PU Colleges Education Department, Udupi District, Edward Larsen D’Souza - Principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle, D.K. Moger -President of PU Colleges Teachers’ Association, Udupi District, Ramdas Prabhu - Honorary President of PU Colleges History Teachers’ Forum, Manjunatha B.D - Secretary of PU Colleges History Teachers’ Forum, Gerald Fernandes - Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Mahesh Ramchandra Nayak and Shanthinatha Jogi - retired and retiring lecturers.
Following the prayer and welcome address by Shivananda Nayak, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas formally inaugurated the Orientation Programme by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural address, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas appreciated the efforts put in by the Udupi District PU Colleges History Teachers’ Forum in organizing the one day long Orientation Programme in St. Lawrence Composite PU College, Moodubelle. He pointed out the importance of the study of History in the understanding of the present and visualizing the future.
Nine students from different PU Colleges who had scored 100 marks in the subject of History in the Second Year PU College Arts Examination held in March 2020 along with their respective teachers were felicitated on this occasion by Bhagavantha Kattimani, Deputy Director of PU Colleges education Department, Udupi District.
Two lecturers of History - Mahesh Ramchandra Nayak, retired from Government PU College, Shiroor and Shanthinatha Jogi of Government PU College, Bailoor who will be retiring in May 2021 were honoured by the dignitaries on the dais by offering them shawl, garland, fruit tray and memento.
In their reply to the honour on their retirement Mahesh Ramchandra Nayak and Shantinatha Jogi traced their educational and professional journey and thanked the Udupi District History Teachers’ Forum for honouring them on their retirement.
Bhagavantha Kattimani who will be retiring shortly was felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais. In his message, Kattimani narrated the problems faced by the students, parents and teachers in conducting classes during the last year due to the prevalence of Covid 19. Though regular classes have commenced from January 2021, the students and teachers find it difficult to cope up with the syllabi. It has been proposed to reduce syllabi in all subjects by 30 percent. He further said that the Orientation Programmes organized in different subjects would enable the teachers to understand the reduced syllabi and the pattern of question papers.
D.K. Moger, Gerald Fernandes and Naveen Correa also spoke on this occasion and wished success to the One Day-long History Teachers’ Orientation Programme.
Manjunath B.D. proposed the vote of thanks and M.G. Asadi compeered the inaugural programme.
The Orientation programme was held in three sessions-first, soon after the inaugural function conducted by Dr. Mona Mendonca, History Lecturer from Carmel PU College, Modankapu, Bantwala. The second session after lunch was conducted by Prakash Shetty - lecturer in Girls Government PU College, Udupi. The third session was on the issue of preparation of blueprint and question papers.
