Kadiyali – Manipal street lights inaugurated by Dr. Acharya

Udupi, 26 June 2011: In the widened Kadiyali – Manipal state highway, the newly installed street lights on the centre divider were inaugurated by District Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya on Saturday. These 107 street lights were installed with a cost of rupees 70 lakhs. On this occasion MLA Raghupathi Bhatt, City Corporation President Kiran Kumar, Vice President Bharathi Chandrashekar, Paurayuktha Gokuldas Nayak, City Corporation members; Naveen Bhandary, Ravi Amin, Devendra Prabhu, Jilla Panchayath Member Upendra Nayak and others were present.

 

 

District Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya also had a press meet on Saturday at Udupi D.C. office. He said that, in Udupi district 12,000 people are homeless, among them some may be false. But for distribution 150 acre land is available, which will be possible to distribute to 4,500 people. Also 3,300 homeless people are living illegally on government land, which will be made legal. So among the total homeless 7,800 people will be provided plots within one year, he said.

 
For the overall development of the fishing section rupees 100 crores were announced during this budget. Now near Maravanthe for outer fishing port (similar to Kerala) rupees 40 crores and at Avaligadde at Gangolli a mini port costing rupees 7 crores have been already approved in the ministerial committee, said Dr. Acharya.

 
With the reason that there are no backward Taluks in Udupi district the Jilla Panchayath did not get any grants for the road works in the last 2 years from the centre. In this year rupees 5.94 crores has been released. For the disasters during the monsoon rainy season Deputy Commissioner has given appeal for rupees 11.18 crores. Within 3 – 4 days this amount will be released, said Dr. Acharya.
