Udupi, 25 June 2011: Does the believers of God feel that the oath performed in the name of Dharmastala Shree Manjunatha by Chief Minister Yediyoorappa and former chief Minister Kumaraswamy for their selfish political purpose is wrong? Does the voters feel that they have made a mistake by voting these politicians who were chosen on the name of the constitution and are now taking oath in the name of God? Seems like the people are feeling that they have made a mistake.

Because Udupi Nagarika Samithi had organized an expiation procession on Friday in Udupi on the politicians oath issue. During this procession hundreds of people who thought that making Dharmastala unclean by taking oath and voting for such politicians is a mistake and offered their wrong offerings.

A symbolic procession of about 1 kilometre from city Taluk Office to the Service Bus stand was organized. In this procession the shopkeepers, lawyers, people waiting at bus stop, people travelling on vehicles, women, men, even press reporters too offered rupees 1, 2, 5... whatever they felt into the “Wrong Offerings Pot” held in hands by Nithyananda Volakadu – Chief Secretary of Nagarika Samithi.

At the end of the procession, near the service bus stand, in front of the Gandhi statue the money collected in the Pot was counted and it was total rupees 837. “This wrong offering money will be taken to Dharmastala on behalf of Samithi on 27th June, for our politicians making Shrikshethra unclean for their selfishness, for misusing the name of Shri Majunatha Lord and for choosing such politicians, on behalf of all the voters, will be offered to Manjunatha and will pray for the forgiveness of these mistakes made”, said Nithyananda Volakadu.

Though this seems like a gimmick by the Nagarika Samithi, only in 1 kilometre walking procession hundreds of people have offered the wrong offerings, which clearly represents the hopelessness of the people on our politicians. May be, if there is a opportunity to offer wrong offerings like this in the entire state, many voters of the state might regret for voting these politicians who are doing non-constitutional oaths and behaving as if the democracy is a joke?

There s nothing a commoner can do. Every politician is corrupt! Then caste and religion become the only criteria for electing the leaders. Good reporting Snehalatha!
