Moodbidri: Aneeshcharith Bhandary and Reesha Shenoy win Under 16 State Chess ChampionshipR

Moodbidri, 19 June 2011: Aneeshcharith Bhandary (BRMP School, Bantwal) and Reesha Shenoy (Carmel English school, Mangalore) have won the titles in Karnataka State Under 16 Boys and Girls Chess Championship respectively.
The two day championship was organised by Karnataka State Chess Association (Affiliated to Chess Association of India) in association with Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri.
In Boys section, Aneeshacharith scored unbeaten 7 points in as many rounds to claim the honor. Arjun Adappa (Lourdes Cenrtral School, Mangalore) scored 5 points to bag the runner up with superior tiebreak score over 5 more players with same points. Sourav M Boloor (Canara Urwa, Mangalore) stood 3rd with 5 points.

In Girls section, Reesha Shenoy scored unbeaten 4.5 points in 5 rounds to win the championship. Mahima Khandige (St Agnes Girls High School, Mangalore) scored unbeaten 4 points to secure runner up. Prerna Rai (Lourdes central school) was placed 3rd with 3.5 points.
Top two players in each category will represent Karnataka in the CAI Rated National Under 16 Chess Championship to be held at Maharashtra.
Prizes were distributed by Sri Abhayachandra Jain, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly and Mulky-Moodbidri MLA; Sri Deric Pinto, President, Karnataka State Chess Association; Prof. Ravish Kumar, Principal, Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri. Sri Prasanna Rao, Joint secretary, Chess association of India; Sri Shanthiraj Kambli, Physical Education Director, Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri; Sri Praveen Kamath, Chief Arbiter were also present on the dais.
