Dubai: Nanu Marol Thottam elected new convener of Daiji Dubai, Sunil Ferns co-convner

Dubai, 27 Jul 2020: Nanu Marol Thottam (Clarence Stephen Fernandes), renowned Konkani critic, writer and theater artiste elected as convener of UAE-based Daiji Dubai, Konkani writers association for 2020–2022.

 

Sunil Feranandes Kota elected as co-convener, while Santosh D’Souza Perla elected as treasurer during the annual general body meeting held at the chairmanship of Daiji Dubai founder Dayan D’Souza Mukamar here recently.

Its indeed Daiji Dubai has been successful in reviving Konkani theater among Mangaloreans working in GCC countries since the last 2 decades. Konkans who were hitherto hesitant to speak their mother tongue Konkani were proud to speak owing to the revolution of Daiji Dubai. It has staged several literary and theater contests for Konkani writers and artistes. The elderly Konkani writers/artistes who were in financial difficulties were helped by Daiji Dubai to lead dignified living. Daiji Literary Award that is instituted by Daiji Dubai has been reckoned as the major Konkani literary award.

 

Nanu Marol has already made his mark for being critic and for insightful writing in Konkani literary world. He is not only veteran member of Daiji Dubai and also top notch theater artiste. He has been contributing to Konkani literature and promoting it in different ways in the last nearly 3 decades. He has successfully steered UAE’s renowned Konkani organizations such as Karaval Milan and Sakat Thottam.

 

Sunil Fernandes Kota is well known for humorous articles that are published in all most all Konkani journals and illustrated weeklies. He has been associated with Daiji Dubai since the past 18 years. He also led Karaval Milan for sometime.

 

Santosh Perla

 

Santosh Perla is an up and coming writer with deep thoughts who is also a lawyer by profession. He hails from Maniyampare (formerly Ukkinadka) parish in Kasargod deanery, under Mangaluru diocese. He is well known in UAE’s literary world for being youth leader. He served as ICYM Kasargod deanery unit. He is now serving as president of UAE-based Emirates Konkans Kasargod.

 

The new co-convener Naveen Sequeira on behalf of exiting convener Dinesh Correa thanked members, donors and all those who supported them during his term with Daiji Dubai and also assured continued support in its endeavor.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Nanu Marol Thottam thanked all the members for electing him as convener of Daiji Dubai. He also said, ‘It’s a huge responsibility to lead Daiji Dubai,’ said Nanu. He hoped with the co-operation of all the office bearers and members; he would be able to take Daiji Dubai to greater heights.

Later, elections for new office bearers of Daiji Rang Mandir, theater wing of Daiji Dubai was held. Darryl D’Souza Vamanjoor, well known Konkani writer and theater artiste elected as convener of Daiji Rang Mandir. Melvyn, Mandd Sobhann promoted Konkani’s lone theater repertory - Kalakul trained theater artiste elected as co-convener.
