A Revolution in Blood Donation by Mogaveera Yuva Sanghtane

Udupi, 16 June 2011: If the organization has the will, then they can make a revolution. The fresh example to this is Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane of Udupi. This is the organization that has generated more than 3,000 blood donors throughout the district. In spite of so much development in the society even today there are majority of people who are scared about blood donation and some are even under the impression that by donating the blood they might fall sick due to shortage of blood.

 

 
In this situation it is not easy task to conduct the blood donation camps all over the district and have the donors participate in them. But even then this Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane has accomplished this difficult task with dedication. As a result of this, in the last 3 years it has arranged total more than 4,500 unit blood donation, that means it has collected and made it available to the patients.

 
The Sanghatane which began in Udupi, established its units all over the districts and launched them into social service and in the last 3 years organizing the blood donation camps through these units. In the beginning the response from people was not so good, but today there is no shortage of donors in the Sanghatane.

 
In 2008 – 09 the Mogaveera Sanghatane arranged the blood donation from 500 donors. The next year it arranged blood donation from 1,400 donors. In last year it organized 19 camps and received blood donation from 2,588 a record number of people. In this year in 3 months already it has conducted 4 camps and has received blood from 586 donors. That means, altogether so far it has collected 5,074 units of blood! and thus in average it has saved more than 2,000 lives! Believe it or not, they have set a target to receive blood donation from total 5,000 people this year, says the District President of the Sanghatane Sathish Nayak.

 

 

 

 

 

Many a times there have been situations of non availability of blood. Even in literate District such as Udupi there have been false belief on blood donation. When we noticed this, our organization thought of organizing the blood donation camps, says Sathish. Today if anyone are in need of blood, our organization has hundreds of donors for giving blood immediately, says Sathish with pride of the achievement of their organization. Perhaps there is no such organization for blood donation elsewhere!

 
From the blood collected by this organization 75% has been given to Kasturba Hospital Manipal and the balance 25% has been given to Udupi District Hospital. Those who are very poor and are in need of blood, if they contact the Sanghatane, they will recommend to these Hospitals and on those occasion the people can get the blood in very much concessional rate from these Hospitals.

 
Along with the blood donation this Mogaveera Sanghatane is involving themselves in many other social services and thus showing the kind of strength a organization can achieve, which has been a role model to other organizations.
