Mangaluru: Abbakka Utsav – 2020, epitome to warrior Queen of Tulunad

Mangaluru, 03 Mar: Dakshina Kannada district administration successfully organized patriotic Queen Abbakka Utsav at Asaigoli ground, here from Saturday, February 29 to Sunday, March 1.
Queen Abbakka was the ruler of Ullal who fought early Portuguese conquerors in colonizing the erstwhile Tulunadu.
Variety cultural shows, competitions for students, seminar and rural games were held to educate the people on the heroic virtues of Queen in protecting her kingdom from colonial powers.
The tableaus of different art forms from across Karnataka participated in the colorful procession that began from Deralakatte to Asaigoli ahead of the inaugural function.
Padmasri Awardees Tulasi Gowda and Harekala Hajabba were felicitated during the event.
DK district-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary announced that criteria to confer Abbakka Award will be drawn up, in order to present the same to 2 distinguished women beginning from next year.
Although Abbakka Utsav was held since many years, an official log in this regard was unveiled. Meanwhile, DK DC Sindhu B Rupesh had taken keen interest in inviting well known artists in launching the logo during this year’s celebration that was directly managed by the district administration itself. No funds were released for sub-committees. Both DC Sindhu and ADC Roopa chalked up plans to hold the celebration since 2 months mentored by district-in-charge minister Srinivas Poojary. It’s owing to this fact, Abbakka Utsav 2020 was more successful gauging from the participation of a large numbers of public who were present on the occasion.
Queen Abbakka was the native ruler who was the first women to wage war against colonial rulers in their early conquest. The celebration aims to create awareness among the people in order to join in nation building.
