Mangaluru: Child labour cases are few in DK district with higher literacy – Judge Ravi Nayak

Mangaluru, 10 Jan: Dakshina Kannada district has more literacy ratios and when compared with other districts it has a few instances of child labour, said family court chief judge Ravi M Nayak.

 

Ravi was speaking after inaugurating legal awareness workshop The Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act of 1986 that was jointly organized by district Legal Services Authority, district administration, labour department, SC/ST Associations, district at ZP Netravati auditorium, here on Friday, January 10.

 

 

He highlighted the definition of The Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act of 1986: A ‘Child’ is defined as any person below the age of 14 and the CLPR Act prohibits employment of a Child in any employment including as a domestic help (except helping own family in non-hazardous occupations).

 

He also advised the police to file cases on the owners of factories who employ child labor with full background of the case and to avoid any animosity with the concerned people.

 

In her presidential address, DC DC Sindhu B Roopesh urged all department officials in eliminating child labor because they are the future of our nation.

 

The resource person advocate Nikesh Shetty, senior civil judge Gangadhar A J, SP B M Laxmi Prasad, DDPI B M Laxmiprasad, assistant labour commissioner K B Nagaraj, Dalit Seva Sami district president D K Sesappa Beddakadu, Prajna Counseling director Hilda Rayappan and others were present.
