Alevoor gram panchayat leads in scientific waste disposal

Udupi, 11 Dec: At the joint aegis of KMC Hospital – community health department and Manipal Higher Educational Academy, Manipal, in collaboration with Alevoor gram panchayat, Rotary Club – Manipal Hills, Nehru Sports and Cultural Association, Alevoor, a workshop on Waste management – plastic use was held at Alevoor, here on Saturday, December 7.
Udupi ZP president Dinakar Babu inaugurated the workshop held at family welfare centre, Manipal.
In his inaugural address, Babu said that waste disposal is a great challenge. If it’s done in scientifically; pollution related ailments can be effectively curbed. He lauded the social welfare and voluntary organizations in sensitizing the masses on the environment/health hazards caused by unscientific waste disposal.
Alevoor gram panchayat president Srikant Nayak presided the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Nayak said that the waste that is collected form residents under the limits of Alevoor gram panchayat is scientifically disposed off and also sensitize people on plastic use.
Rotary Club – Manipal Hills president Balakrishna K, Sesappa Rai, Manipal sub-inspector Sridar Nambiar, Dr Arvind, Alevoor PDO Dayanand, staff of community health centre, the representatives of social welfare, voluntary organizations and education institutions were present.
Community medicine Assistant Professor Chaitra Rao welcomed the gathering and delivered the preliminary address. The social worker Neelavati compered the programme.
Manipura primary health centre (PHC) medical officer Dr Anjali offered info about Unscientific waste disposal – health hazard and environmental engineer T Murti about Scientific waste disposal.
