Udupi: UPCL Celebrates World Environment Day

Udupi, 06 June 2011: Udupi Power Corporation Limited and Lyanko Foundations, celebrated world environment day as part of their social responsibility, at Thenka Ermal Government Higher Primary School, on Sunday. The program was inaugurated with lighting of lamp  by Dr. Ajith D’Souza – Head of Social Work Post Graduation Department of Milagres College Kallianpur. Later he symbolically planted a sapling in the school premises and activated the movement of planting the lyanko plnts this year.

 

Resource person of the program Renita D’Souza spoke on the occasion and said that, considering the extreme weather condition, high temperature and global warming, the world environment day celebration has lot of significance this year. Students and the society need to play an important role in protecting the environment, she said.

 

 

 

 

On this occasion Sudarshan Prasad - Senior Project Manager of UPCL spoke and announced that, on behalf of the company 8,000 saplings will be distributed to the Grama Panchayaths of the surrounding areas very soon.

 

As part of the program, painting and poem competitions related to environment were conducted for Primary school children and the winners were given prizes and honoured. After the stage program cultural program on environment were conducted by children.

 

On the dias UPCL Senior Administrator Mukundan, Arun Kumar from Lyanko Foundation, School Teachers; Roopa, Jayanthi K., Venoda were present. Prakash Marpadi of Lyanko Foundation compeered the program. Sudhir K. welcomed the gathering. Muralidhar A. proposed vote of thanks.
