Milagres Cathedral observes All Souls Day and inaugurated the renovated cemetery

Udupi, 03 Nov: Milagres Cathedral Kallianpur of the Udupi Diocese observed All Souls day with devotion and gaiety on Saturday, November 1, 2019. All Souls day is a solemn celebration in the church commemorating all of those who have died and are new in Purgatory being cleansed of their venial sins and the temporal punishments for the mortal sins that they had confessed and being made pure before entering into the presence of God in heaven.

 

The Solemn Eucharistic mass concelebrated by Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese along with Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Canute Noronha Assistant parish priest, Rev Fr. Lancy Fernandes SJ, Principal of Milagres English Schools, Rev Fr. Vincent Crasta Secretary of CESU, Rev Fr. Stephan D’Souza, Director of diocesan commission of Liturgy, Rev Fr. Ronson D’Souza parish priest of Katpady church and Rev Fr. John Bennet Superior of Pilar Fathers’ Kallianpur.

 

In his homily, Fr Lancy Fernandes pointed out the importance of Catholic Church and catholic cemetery which are most sacred places for the catholic faithful people. The faithful people should need to convert and change in their life with God like Zakaria. WE need to thirst of God and should need to unite or close with God almighty. When we fall in love with God, we would get love of God. God loves you and created you to love God personally.

 

 

After the weekly announcements by assistant parish priest Fr Canute Noronha, all the faithful gathered at the entrance of church cemetery which newly constructed. Bishop inaugurated the newly constructed entrance of the cemetery by cutting the ribbon on the entrance.

 

Followed by all faithful people entered the decorated cemetery with colored lights and gathered near their respective concerned tomb’s. Later, the newly constructed ‘cemetery dome’ was inaugurated by donors Wilfred Fernandes and Precilla Fernandes.

 

On account of All Souls Day, Bishop conducted the prayers in the cemetery and later along with the other priests sprinkled the Holy water on the tombs in the cemetery.

 

Brief programme held after the prayer services in cemetery which the donors Wilfred Fernandes and Precilla Fernandes were felicitated by the Bishop. The contractor and engineer of the renovation of the cemetery Elias D’Souza of Moodubelle presently residing in Mount Rosary was also felicitated by the Bishop. Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza gave gratitude to the donors of the renovation of cemetery and thanked all concerned.

 

Fr. Lancy Fernandes, Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca parish priest of Udupi church and dean of Udupi deanery, Rev Fr. John Bennet, Rev Fr. Stephan D’Souza, Rev Fr. Vincent Crasta, Rev Fr. Ronson D’Souza, Dr. Nery Cornelio vice president of parish pastoral council, Felciana Lewis secretary were present.

 

Large numbers of faithful of the parish and nearby parishioners were participated during the prayer services in the cemetery which was decorated by colourful lights and flowers on the tombs.
