Udupi: Ln. Denis Martis Takes Charge as President of Lions Club, Moodubelle

Udupi/M’Belle, 21 Jul: Ln. Denis Martis was installed as the new President of Lions Club, Moodubelle for the year 2019-20 on Saturday, 20 July 2019. Ln. Elias D’Souza took charge as Secretary and Ln. Joseph Martis as Treasurer. The installation programme was conducted by Ln. M. Kavitha S. Shastri, Past Governor of Lions District 317.

 

The Installation Programme commenced at 7.45 pm. Following the welcome dance by the Leo members, dignitaries were called to dais. The dignitaries included: Ln. Kavitha Shastri,Ln. Dr. Santhosh Kumar Shastri, Past Governor of Lion District 317 who inducted new members, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas-Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Ln. Ivan D’Almeida-President of Lions Club, Moodubelle, Ln. Joseph Martis-Secretary,  Sharline D’Almeida-Leo President, Ln. Ramesh Shetty-Zone Chairman, Ln. Gerald Fernandews-Region Chaairman, Region II and Ln. Wilfred D’Souza-Past District Governor.

 

 

After preliminary proceedings of Lions Meeting, Ln. Ivan D’Almeida welcomed the guests.

 

Ln. Dr. Eugene D’Souza introduced  the chief guest, Ln. Kavitha Shastri.

 

In her installation address, Ln. Kavitah Shastri highlighted the significance of Lions Clubs International as one of the widely recognized service organization throughout the world. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, Ln. Kavitha Shastri said that service is the debt that we owe to the society. Lionism provides an opportunity to serve those in need.

 

Conducting the installation ceremony, Ln. Kavitha Shastri called upon the new office bearers of Lions Club, Moodubelle to carry out their duties with full diligence and sincerity.

 

Ln. Kavitha Shastri also installed the office bearers of the Leo Club.

 

Following the installation programme, Ln. Santhosh Kumar Shastri and Ln. Wilfred D’Souza handed over the gravel to Ln. Denis Martis and outgoing President Ln. Ivan D’Almeida transferred his ribbon to Ln. Denis Martis symbolizing the handing over of the charge as the President to Ln. Denis Martis. Ln. Joseph Martis, the outgoing Secretary transferred his ribbon to new Secretary Ln. Elias D’Souza and later outgoing Treasurer Ln. Rajendra Shetty handed over account files to the new Treasurer Ln. Joseph Martis.

 

 

In his acceptance address, Ln. Denis Martis congratulated the outgoing President Ln. Ivan D’Almeida and assured that he would continue the good traditions of the Lions Club, Moodubelle and sought support from all the members.

 

In his farewell address, Ln. Ivan D’Almeida outlined the various service activities undertaken during his tenure as the President and assured full support to the new President. He tanked all the donors who had contributed to various service activities including the repair of the house of Mrs. Sindhu Poojarthi.

 

Those students who had secured highest marks in their respective public examinations were felicitated during the programme. These included: Varshitha (97.76%) from St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle, Varadaraj (89.99%) from St. Lawrence Knnada Medium High School, Moodubelle, Ashton D’Souza (92.66%) PUC Arts from St. Lawrence PU College, Merline Mendonca (96.5%) PUC Commerce from St. Lawrence PU College, Moodueblle and Shreyas Kamath (98.33%) in PUC Science from Jnanagangaa PU College, Nellikatte. Besides these, two children of Lions Club members who had scored distinction marks were also honoured-Snehal Preethika D’Souza, daughter of Ln. Elias D’Souza and Saniya D’Almeida, daughter of Ln. Ivan D’Almeida.

 

 

As part of the service activity, the new president Ln. Denis Martis and Secretary Ln. Elias D’Souza handed over ‘sanitary machine’ to Mrs. Sunitha Kamath, headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Moodubelle.

 

The donors of the repair of the house of Mrs. Sindhu Poojarthi were felicitated on this occasion.

 

Ln. Saanthosh Kumar Shastri inducted seven new members to the Lions Club of Moodubelle.

 

Fr. Clement Mascarenhas in his brief message lauded the service activities of the Lions Club of Moodueblle and wished the new office bearers well in their various activities. 

 

Ln. Wilfred D’Souza in his felicitation address recalled his association with Ln. Santhosh Kumar Shastri when the latter was the District Governor. He further said that Ln. Santhosh Kumar Shastri’s father was also District Governor. Hence, in one family there had been three District Governors, which could be a record.

 

 

The outgoing office bearers were honoured for their service during the last year.

 

Three members, Ln. Gerald Fernandes, Ln. Joseph Martis and Ln. Valerian Noronha who had attended the International Lions Convention at Milan, Italy during the first week of July were also felicitated during the programme.

 

Ln. Elias D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Shalet D’Souza and Ln. Devdas Hebbar compeered the programme.

 

 

Earlier at 6.30 pm, the renovated house of Mrs. Sindhu Poojarthi at Ganapana Katte, Moodubelle under the ‘Home for Homeless’ scheme was inaugurated by the present District 317 C Governor Ln. V.G Shetty. Speaking on this occasion, Governor Ln. V.G. Shetty said that educating the youth from villages and providing homes for the homeless have been his prime objectives. He appreciated the efforts of the Lions Club, Moodubelle for repairing the house of Mrs. Sindhu Poojarthi. He also handed over a saree and rice bag to Mrs. Sindhu Poojarthi.
