Doha: Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) Science Club launched

Doha, 18 Jun: Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of Embassy of India, Qatar launched the Science Club to promote inquisitiveness among the science enthusiasts and inculcate scientific temper among them. Padma Shri Dr. Prakash Baba Amte formally inaugurated the Science Club. Dr. Amte appealed to the young generations to take up social service in villages to build a peaceful and humane society. He inspired the audience comprising of students from India Schools and Indian Community with his experiences and how he transformed the lives in the tribal areas of Maharashtra. He shared the difficulties and challenges in working in remote areas and how community living helped people to uplift their standards. According to him, even though India has surplus food every year, but - Hunger is still the main challenge in the tribal areas and most of them still depends on hunting because resources don’t reach these remote areas.
While addressing the gathering, ICC President A.P. Manikantan emphasized on the role of community in enhancing the scientific knowledge in day to day life and how we should preserve and protect the planet Earth. Mr. Manikantan also presented a memento to Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte, as a token on appreciation to their contribution to the society. ICC Vice President & Science Club Convener Vinod V.Nair did the proceedings, while Ms. Nayana Wagh did the vote of thanks. The program was attended by eminent personalities from the Indian Community as well.
The ICC Science Club will be periodically conduct programs which includes - science series, quiz, discussions on current burning issues in the scientific field. The Club will also organize training for science teachers and students, apart from interactive sessions with eminent scientists and scholars from India. The enrollment to the club is open for every single science lover in Qatar.
