Mangaluru, 20 May: All the measures are being taken to supply drinking water to households in DK district till June 6, said DK district DC Sasikant Sentil.
DC Sasikant was briefing DK district-in-charge minister U T Khader about the measures that are being taken on no rains and likelihood of excess rains in the district at the former’s office here on Sunday, May 20.
He said, ‘The water levels in Thumbay vented dam was monitored at the backdrop of no rains in peak summer to supply drinking water to Mangaluru city. The divisional officers and engineers were assigned to maintain drinking water supply who have identified inhabited areas in hilly areas where drinking water is being supplied by tankers.’ ZP CEO Dr Selvamani has personally overseen the arrangements in water supply with concerned officials in the areas under ZP, added DC.
The rationing for drinking water will be discontinued once it rains with sufficient water in vented dam. The drinking water will be sourced from 48 open wells and 135 borewells including 11 newly-dug up to supply to main water supply. Round-the-clock helpline to address the grievances of water supply are functioning with no fund crunch in this regard, added DC.
