The Christian community has begun the season of Lent on March 6 with the imposition of ashes on the head. The forty-day of Lent is observed in remembrance of forty years of journey of Israelites in the desert before they reached the Promised Land and the forty-days of fasting and prayer done by Jesus before He began His public life. The season of Lent is a season of cleansing; it’s a season of grace which involves fasting, giving up pleasures and practicing almsgiving.
In his homily, Fr Santhosh Lobo, parish priest of Our Lady of Dolours Church, Kasargod, said, ‘The need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus if we wish to be called as followers of Jesus.
