Qatar: Indian Ambassador felicitates Pravasi Bharatiya 2019 Awardee Cdr Purnendu Tiwari

Doha/Qatar, 16 Feb: The Indian Ambassador P Kumaran, joined by Major Geneneral Tariq Khalid Al Obaidly, Past Head International Military Co-orperation, GHQ and Khamis Al Ajmi, CEO, Dahra Technologies felicitated Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (2019) Awardee, Commander Purnendu Tiwari during the function held at Ashoka Hall of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), here on Wednesday, February 13.

 

Rajesh Kamble, counselor and Captain Kapil Kaushik, defense attache at Embassy of India were also present on the occasion.

 

On January 23, during the valedictory ceremony, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award to Comander Purnendu Tiwari (Indian Navy retired) from Qatar. He is the first Indian Armed Forces personnel to be awarded this highest honor meant for NRIs/PIOs. Commander Purnendu Tiwari served in Indian Navy from 1982 to 2002, having various tenures in Navy including command of Ships Kozhikode and Magar. He is the managing director of Dahra Group and instrumental in setting up a world class training infrastructure for the QENF and conducting training of Officers.

 

 

The dignitaries also felicitated Seenu Pillai, K M Varghese, Kala Gopala Krishnan, Shanun D’Souza and Anoop Babu for their tireless contribution and coordination for the PBD delegation from Qatar. Others felicitated during the event were Supporters of the event Harish Kanjani, Palash Das and the Group leaders of the Qatar delegation Rajneesh Shastri, Aji Kuriakose, Rajesh Singh, Nisha Agrawal, Santosh Pillai, Deven Deorukhkar and Raja Vijayan in recognition of their contribution which led to a successful participation of delegation from Qatar to the PBD 2019 event.

 

The Felicitation was done during an Event associated with the conclusion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019. The past presidents K M Varghese of IBPC, Devis Edukulathur of ICBF and present presidents Manikantan A P of ICC, P N Baburajan of ICBF and Azim Abbas of IBPC also joined in the Felicitation ceremony.

 

The Indian Ambassador addressed the gathering informing about the active role played by Commander Purnendu Tiwari towards capacity building for the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, thereby promoting India-Qatar bilateral cooperation. Major General Tariq Khalid Al Obaidly also spoke on the occasion complimenting the award recipient and also the vast contribution from India for the host country of Qatar.

 

The Program was coordinated by the general secretary of the Indian Cultural Center, Seenu Pillai, with joint secretary of Indian Sports Center and head of Yoga, Nisha Agrawal as the comperes. Managing Committee Member of Indian Community Benevolent Forum, Santosh Pillai gave the welcome address and Deven Deorukhkar, past president of Maharashtra Mandal proposed the vote of thanks. Head of finance for Indian Cultural Center presented the statement of accounts for the PBD expenses to the PBD delegates present on the occasion.
