Richard DSouza (47) from Moodubelle, Biking Enthusiast, Run Over by Water Tanker at Thane, dies

Thane, 21 Jan: Richard D’Souza aged 47 years, son of Felix and Lilly D’Souza from Moodubelle, husband of Dolora D’Souza and father of Rochelle and Kenneth died as a result of serious road accident at Thane, Maharashtra on Saturday, 19 January 2019.
Richard D’Souza was on a scooter with a friend when he was knocked down by a water tanker and sent hurtling down on its path and was crushed under the wheels on Ghodbunder Road, Thane. Thane’s biking community plunged into grief on hearing the news of the tragic death of one of their own community member.
The police said that Richard D’Souza, a resident of Kolsshet, Thane was riding a scooter with a friend Jamil Ibrahim Ansari on the pillion near Vijaya Garden inThane around 2 pm when a water tanker hit the vehicle. The scooter toppled sending Richard D’Souza under the wheels of the tanker. Ansari who also fell had a lucky escape. Passersby stopped the tanker and called the police and an ambulance. Richard was rushed to the hospital, but declared dead on arrival.
The Kasarvadavali police arrested the tanker driver. Thane resident Pramod Kumar Vinod Kumar Papade (27) was arrested for rash driving and negligence. “We have seized the tanker as well as the scooter. D’Souza’s body was handed over to his family after postmortem examination,” said an officer from Kasarvadavali Police Station.
Ninad Mumbarak, a friend said Richard D’Souza was a known face among Thane’s biking enthusiasts. He had undertaken several rides with his group including some to Simla, Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, Mysore and Bangalore. “We went on numerous rides together. He was a generous friend and doting father to his son and daughter” He said.
The funeral of late Richard D’Souza will take place on Monday, 21 January 2019 with requiem mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Majiwada, Thane, followed by burial service in church cemetery.
