Bantwal: Chaos at Farangipet as railway workmen fence area

Bantwal, 18 Jan: The chaos prevailed when the railway workmen began leveling fish market that was functioning illegally on the land of railways besides Mangaluru – Bengaluru NH 75 at Farangipet, here, on Thursday, January 17 morning. The locals opposed the clearing of market causing chaos.
Bantwal rual SI Prasanna who arrived at the spot along with policemen, instructed the workmen to stall the work till the top officials of railways come to the spot.
The railway has the plot touching 142 feet to NH, while its workmen were fencing the area sparing 3 feet for public use. The locals insisted 3 feet wide space is too narrow and demanded to fence the area marked earlier by railways. They demanded the railway officials arrive at the spot and resolve the issue. Tense situation prevailed at this time.
The railways assistant divisional engineer Krutyanand who arrived at the spot on Thursday afternoon, advised the local gram panchayat to write to railways for letting more space on public interest.
Bantwal officials AC Ravichandra and Bantwal ASP Said-ul-Adavat held discussions with railway in this regard. The railway officials instructed their workmen to fence the area sparing 13 feet for pedestrian use and they resumed their work.
Bantwal SI Prasanna and circle inspector Nagaraj led the security to thwart any untoward incident in the area.
Pudu gram panchayat president Ramlan Maripalla, vice president Harish Perimar and others were present.
