Udupi/M’Belle: Church Aided HP School and Old Students Association Celebrates Annual Day

Moodubelle, 10 Jan: The Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle and Old Students Association of the school celebrated Annual Day with prize distribution, cultural programme by school children and Tulu drama “Pira Barvola…?” on Wednesday, 9 January 2019.

 

The prize distribution programme was presided over by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas-Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Other dignitaries on the dais included Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-Assistant Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle, Chief Guest Rajendra Shetty-Former President of Old Students Assocaition and former President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Guest of Honour Commodore Jerome Castelino (VSM)-Old Student and retired Officer of Indian Navy, Vincent Fernandes-Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Valerian Alva- Old Student and Philanthropist, Mrs. Sujata Suvarna-Old Student and member of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Ivan D’Souza-President of PTA, Lloyd Rebello-President of Old Students Association and Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress of Church Aided HP School, Moodubelle.

 

Following the welcome address by Lloyd Rebello, Sr. Irene Viegas presented the report of the brief history and achievements of the school.

 

The most important part of the function was the prize distribution programme. Students lined up according to their classes as Kum. Asha read the list of the prize winners who came promptly to the stage and collected their prizes from the dignitaries on the dais with great enthusiasm. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas gave away trophies to the champions of the school athletics meet held earlier.

 

 

Commodore Jerome Castelino who has been sponsoring four honorary teachers of the school and Valerian Alva who has been a supporter of the school through his donations were honoured by Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and other dignitaries. Both these honoraries were introduced by Mrs. Asha Nayak.

 

In his response to the felicitation, Commodore Jerome Castelino appreciated the efforts of the teachers of the school in educating the children in spite of difficulties. He assured his continued support to the betterment of the school.

 

Valerian Alva in his message said that he was an old student of the school and he has been supporting the school as it has been  spreading higher primary education to the children of the village.

 

Rajendra Shetty in his address said that as many of the Kannada medium schools are facing the problem of closure, the government should take measures to promote Kannada medium schools. He reminded the audience that he was the President of the Old Students Association of the school, when it celebrated Centenary in December 2013. Incidentally, he was also fortunate to have been elected as the President of Belle Grama Panchayat.

 

Mrs. Maria Jyothi read the list of donors for the annual day celebration of the school.

 

In his message, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas said that annual day is the day of evaluation of the achievements of the school. He appreciated the fact that since Sr. Irene Viegas took over the charge of the school as the headmistress, there has been a lot of improvement. Fr. Clement also thanked Commodore Jerome Castelino and Valerian Alva for their generous support to the school. He further said that Commodore Jerome Castelino is a disciplined person because of his naval background and also a person with social conscience who has been supporting social causes especially in the field of education. Fr. Clement also lauded the philanthropic activities of Valerian Alva.

 

Mrs. Prabhavati proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Pramila D’Sa compeered the programme.

 

 

Soon after the stage function, students of the school presented cultural programmes which included mostly dances including Yakshagana and Tiger dance. 

 

The cultural programme was anchored by students Anvitha and Aniha Aranha.

 

 

The most awaited and penultimate programme of the day was the Tulu hilarious play “Pira Barvola…?” presented by the Old Students of the school. The play was written by Sunil Kumar Ambalpady and directed by Prabhakar Acharya Edmeru. Some of the old students of the school acted in the play. 

 

Prior to the presentation of the Tulu play, Sr. Irene Viegas and Anil Alva of KK Productions one of the sponsors of the play felicitated both Sunil Kumar Ambalpady and Prabhakar Acharya Edmeru.
