Mangaluru: Bridges empowering rural masses - Girish Bharadwaj, veteran of hanging bridges

Mangaluru, 13 Dec: Canara Engineering College, Benjanapadavu, near here, organized a technical talk on ‘Suspension Bridges-Connecting Rural India’ by a renowned personality, Padmashree Awardee, engineer with social concern, Girish Bharadwaj at Seminar hall on Wednesday, December 12.
The chief guest inaugurated ‘Spectrum,’ First Year Engineering Student Association on this occasion. He unveiled the logo of ‘Spectrum,’ First Year Student Association. He addressed the gathering on this occasion. He said that Building Bridges seems to be challenging task. But, he has successfully completed building many bridges over a period of time because he was not just connecting rural India. Instead, he was connecting their hearts, dreams and also empowering them. He called it as ‘Bridges of love.’ Further, he quoted that success comes in ‘can’s’ and one should always say that positively. He even highlighted that we deal with human beings with human weaknesses therefore we must give human touch to that.
The programme was presided by principal Dr Ganesh V Bhat. He said that ‘Spectrum’ is a great opportunity for all the students to exhibit their budding talents. The welcome address was delivered by Dr N Damodhar, HOD of Chemistry and Basic science. The introductory note of guest was presented by Ganesh Kamath, administrative officer. Ananth Pai, president, Spectrum introduced student office bearers to the audience. Rachana Pai, vice president, Spectrum delivered vote of thanks. Ashitha K, English lecturer compered the programme.
Head of Physics, Head of Mathematics and all the other teaching staffs, non-teaching staffs and students were present.
On account of the inaugural ceremony ‘SPECTRUM’, First Year Student Association competitions like Tech quiz, Tech essay, Tech poster presentation, Tech project were organized in the college premises. Refreshments were also provided for the students.
