Mangaluru: Gahan & Muthaiah win 1st Kudremukh Trophy organized by KIOCL

Mangaluru, 12 Dec: Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL), PSU organized two-day All India Open Fide Rating Rapid Chess Tournament – 2018 that is 1st Kudremukh Trophy at Nehru Bhavan, KIOCL Township, Kavoor, here from December 8 to December 9.
The two-day National level Tournament was consisted of 143 Trophies with Cash Prize of worth Rs 2 lac. The Tournament was inaugurated on December 8 at 9.30am with the commencement of the first round at 10.30am. The valedictory ceremony was held at the twilight hour on December 9. This was an opportunity to showcase the creativity of the brilliant aspirants.
The Tournament was conducted smoothly under the guidance of the International Arbiter B H Vasanth along with and 3 National Aribters. There were a total of 333 participants from all over India with one Russian National (who has settled in India now), one Guinness Record Holder, with the Youngest Player being 4 ½ Years and Eldest being 65 Years. A total of 143 Trophies were distributed with Rs 2 lac cash prizes.
Speaking on the occasion, KIOCL chairman and managing director M V Subba Rao said, ‘Realizing the positive impact on chess on the commitment, flexibility, brainstorming of the aspirants we are one of the Central PSU who have conducted District Level Tournament to the State level, now it is the National Level Tournament.’
The director of production and projects) N Vidyananda, director finance S K Gorai, general manager human resources S Rajendra, general manager – pellet plant unit Roque D’Souza, general manager - production A Devanada Pai and general manager - mechanical and electrical maintenance A V S Bhat, B V Prakash, JGM (PT) president of Chess Tournament Committee and S Murgesh, manager - HR and admin and organizing secretary of Chess Tournament were present.
The Tournament gained applause by all the Senior Participants and the parents of Junior Participants for the ambience and hospitality of the KIOCL Chess Tournament Committee.
