Udupi, 21 May 2011: Memory of Bajpe plane crash is fresh in the minds of the people of the twin districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. While the houses of the victims died in this tragedy have still not come out of the shock, what will be the situation of a family who lost four members in this tragedy. 86 year old Mehaboob of Volakadu lost his wife and unfortunately within the next 24 hours he lost his son, daughter-in-law and two grand children in the plane crash.

On 21st May evening Mehboob’s wife died at home. For the funeral his son Mohammed Ziad (43), his wife Samina (38) and their children Zaber (5) and Zainab (3) were coming home from Dubai on 22nd May morning by Air India Express. But before they could touch their motherland, they followed their mother to heavenly abode.

Mehaboob who was already mourning the death of his wife, hence the news of the death of his son, daughter-in-law and grand children was informed him two days later. It is one year now from that tragic incident, but Mehmoob has lost his health and with the sickness and problems with his eyes and ears he has gone weak. The sorrow of loosing five members of his family has been worrying him ever since.

But the family of Mehaboob is not in poverty. His son had a profitable business in Dubai and his son’s other two children are now studying in Bangalore staying in their Uncle’s house. Their Uncle Mohammed Sadakath says that he is ready to bear the expenses of their education. State Government and Central Government have already paid each four lakh rupees compensation. But Air India Express is still harassing to pay the compensation.

Some people suggested Mehaboob to go to court, but at this old age it is not possible for me, says Mehaboob. If Air India pays the reasonable compensation then I will take it, he says with helplessness. Though he has lost his son, daughter-in-law and two grand children, he do not need the money for his living. But his son’s two children are there and something will be required for their future, says Mehaboob with tears. Who can fight with Air India? He lost his son and daughter in law for no reason, who will get him justice?
