Bangalore, 18 May 2011: A software engineer committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling after allegedly killing his two-year-old daughter at his residence in Parappana Agrahara police limits on early Wednesday morning.

The Parappana Agrahara police identified the deceased as Santosh Sarade (31) and Riya (2). He was a former employee of Infosys and Wipro Technologies. Though the cause for suicide and murder is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect that ill health may have driven him to the extreme step.

He was suffering from a psychological disorder and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Bannerghatta Road.

Hailing from Bidar Santosh Sarade completed BE in Computer Science from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Bidar. He came to Bangalore seven years ago. He worked with Wipro Technologies for two years before taking up a new job. He married Sushma (25), a software engineer from Hyderabad, five years ago.

The couple were reportedly happily married and staying in Garudadri Apartment near Koodlu Gate in Parappana Agrahara. But in the last two years Sarade’s health started deteriorating. Always under pressure and tension, he started slipping into depression. He took medicine from various doctors without much success, before starting treatment with a psychiatrist a year ago.

The couple went to bed as usual after dinner on Tuesday night. Though he had been in deep depression for the past few days, Santosh did not give any indication of taking the extreme step.

Sushma woke up around 5 am and grew suspicious as she could not see her daughter and husband. When she knocked on the door of another room, there was no response. She immediately raised and alarm and called in the neighbours. When the neighbours broke open the door, they saw Santosh hanging from the ceiling fan and the daughter from a window. The post mortems were conducted at Victoria hospital and bodies handed over to the relatives.
