Early morning heavy rain gives hope of an early Monsoon

Moodubelle, 18 May 2011: There was sign of rain on Monday and Tuesday evenings. However, with few thunders and negligible showers the rain played truant. Humidity was quite high and people were eagerly waiting for some respite from the  heat. As if to meet the aspirations of the people, in the early morning of Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at around 4.30 am it started raining accompanied with lightning and thunder which continued till around 6 am. This heavy rain gives hope of an early monsoon.

 

As a precaution the Mscom had cut off the power supply during the period of the rain. The rain water had gathered in puddles in low lying area and small ponds and ditches.  Due to the rain, the temperature has considerably come down.

 

 

 

 

 

 

According to India Meteorological Department, India’s annual monsoon rains are likely to keep their date with Kerala bringing showers to the mainland by May 31, which has raised hopes for a normal monsoon season.

 

The weather office has forecast normal rainfall for the second consecutive year and farmers are looking forward for a steady progress of the season that could help them have a bumper crop. By now a number of farmers have sown the paddy seeds for saplings. This rain would greatly help in sprouting and growth of the saplings.
