Easter Celebration in St. Antony’s Church, Kuntalnagar

Kunatal Nagar, 25 April 2011: The Easter celebration started at St. Antony’s Church at 7 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2011 with the blessing of the new fire in the church ground. The lights in the church were completely put off before lighting of the Paschal Candle. Fr. Dancy Martis (OFM-Cap) was the chief celebrant of the Easter Vigil and the Mass.

 

After lighting the Paschal Candle, Fr. Dacny carried it to the main altar and sang in Konkani the great  Easter Song the ‘Exsultet’. The liturgy of the word was followed by the  homily. In his homily, Fr. Dancy said that ‘Jesus is the light of the world’.  Further he said that we should help the poor and the sick and become light in their lives.

 

 

 

The homily was followed by the blessing of the water before which the ‘Litany of the saints’ was recited. The water was kept in decorated pot. He blessed the water by immersing the Paschal candle three times in the water.  After the water was blessed the congregation was blessed with the Holy Water as people stood with lighted candles. Thereafter, the Baptismal promises were renewed.

 

At the end of the Easter Mass, the parish priest, Fr. Jerome  distributed candles of honour  to all the sponsors of the Easter Mass. The ‘pirgent’ of the Easter Mass was sponsored by Valerian and Jacinta Mathias of St. Teresa Ward.  Fr. Jerome thanked each and every one who had helped in conducting all the services during the Holy Week and wished all the parishioners a Happy Easter. Coming out of the church, people were seen wishing each other a ‘Happy Easter’.
