Shirva Parish bags Holy Bible Quiz 2017 held at St. Mary’s College Auditorium by Shirva Deanery

Udupi, 20 Nov 2017: Shirva Parish bags the Holy Bibble Quiz 2017 while Mudarangadi Parish wins 1st Runner up followed by Pamboor Parish (2nd Runner up) which was held at St. Mary’s College Auditorium on Sunday 19th November 2017.

 

The Bible quiz was held as a part of Year of Lectio Divina of Udupi Diocese and it was conducted under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Canute Noronha (Shirva Deanery Director) and conducted Rev. Fr. Kiran D’Souza (Parish Priest) Pillar Parish and Pillar Youth Group.

 

The inaugural ceremony was held at 2pm with a prayer song. Fr. Canute Noronha accorded a warm welcome to the honorary guests on dais namely V. Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro (Parish Priest), Rev. Fr. Stephen D’Souza (Director, Biblical Commission, Udupi Diocese) Rev. Fr. Mahesh D’Souza (Principal, Don Bosco Eng. Medium School), Mr. Wilson D’Souza (VP Parish Council), Ms. Leena Machado (Secretary Parish Council) and Melwin Aranha (President, Catholic Sabha). The inauguration was done by lighting the lamp by all dignitaries on the dais.

 

 

Fr. Stany Tauro, thanked all the ten parishes who attended the bible quiz and wished them good luck.

 

Fr. Kiran narrated the general rules of the quiz and said that there are 15 rounds starting with simple round.  The parishes participated in the quiz were ;  Shirva, Pangla, Pernal, Pamboor, Belman, Palimar, Mudarangadi, Kelmbet, Palimar and Kalattur. The categories the quiz was held on 1) Simple Round 2) Multiple Choice 3) True or False 4) Give us a clue 5) Dum Shall Arts 6) Puzzle Round 7) Wheel of Fortune 8) Audio Visual, 9) Ball Box Round 10) Identify the pictures, 11) Dice Round 12) Decoding, 13) Connecting the pictures, 14) Relation Round and 15) Rapid Fire.

 

All the parishes actively and enthusiastically took part in the all the 15 rounds. Interesting rounds was Give us a clue, Ball Box and bazaar round.  There were ups and downs at each level. However, Shirva Parish managed to beat all other teams and emerged the top winner followed by Mudarangadi and Pamboor Parishes.

 

The Valedictory function was held around 5.00pm and Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonsa (Chancellor, Udupi Diocese) was the guest of honour.  Fr. Canute Noronha accorded a warm welcome and offered a bouquet of flowers to him.  

 

The sponsors of the bible quiz were honoured with roses on the occasion. Speaking the occasion, Fr. Stany Tauro appreciated the efforts put on by Fr. Kiran D’Souza of Pillar and in appreciation offered a flower bouquet. He also thanked each and every parish for their active participation and all those who coordinated the quiz esp. Fr. Canute Noronha for his dedication to complete it successfully.      

 

Fr. Valerian Mendonsa, in his address, said that it was nice to learn that out of 11 parishes of the Shirva Deanery 10 parishes participated and not only participated but had full knowledge on bible as he the opportunity to watch the final session of the quiz. He was expecting only the young to participate in this quiz but pleased to learn that even the adults took part in the contest. He congratulated all the teams and appreciated and blessed all the participants.  

 

All the teams were given away with participation certificates of appreciation by the organizers.  

 

Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Leena Machado.

 

The final session was the prize distribution ceremony. As the names of the winners announced the winning teams jumped in joy and the trophies and cash prizes were distributed by Fr. Valerian Mendonsa for all the winners.
