Atrady-Belle-Shirva-Bajpe State Highway: Cracks develop on bridge before inaugural

Udupi, 06 June 2017: The newly-reconstructed bridge @ Rs 70 lac near Nyarma, at the limits of Shirva gram panchayat, on Atrady – Shirva – Bajpe state highway has developed cracks before its inaugural.

 

 

The sub-standard work of public works department has been exposed as the cracks have developed over the surface of bridge that was opened for traffic just 15 days ago.

 

The soil that has been filled on either side of the bridge is not supported by barrier-wall that will wither in the monsoon.

 

The bridge is the lifeline for thousands of both heavy and light vehicles that ply daily as there are many educations institutions in Shirva locality. Any major mishap on the bridge during monsoon will pose major hazard and disruption in daily life.

 

Waste of taxpayers’ money

 

It’s sad that cracks have developed in the newly-laid bridge owing to poor quality of work that too within a few days of opening for traffic. It’s irony that the taxpayers’ money is being wasted like this. The district administration and elected representatives ought to inspect the work to take early action in restoring it, said NRI entrepreneur Richard Paul Ferrao Shirva.
