12th World Kannada Cultural Convention in Melbourne, Australia from Mar 11 & 12

Bengaluru, 21 Nov 2016: At the joint aegis of United Kannada Sangh, Australia, Hrudayavahini – Mangaluru and Manjunath Education Trust ®, thirteenth World Kannada Cultural Convention will be held at Kingston Art Centre, Melbourne, Australia from March 11 and March 12.
The poets’ session, laughter session, media session and NRI Kannadiga session based on Kannada literature will be held on the occasion. Bharatanatyam, folk art, dance recital, Yakshagana will be presented as part of cultural extravaganza. The folk art and culture of Karnataka will be staged at Australia. Kannada overseas conventions were held in Abu Dhabi during 2004 and 2012, Singapore during 2005 and 2010, Bahrain during 2006 and 2011, Kuwiat during 2007, Qatar during 2008, Dubai during 2009, Kenya during 2013, Canada during 2014 and Sharjah during 2015.
The book stalls will be set up depending on the demands with scope for entrepreneurs to display their items. There are over 3,000 Kannadigas settled in Australia, while they will be urged to attend the event in a large numbers.
World Kannada Cultural Convention Committee is the only organization in Karnataka to provide a platform for over 2,000 artistes, litterateurs and resource persons in overseas since 2004.
Reception Committee
The core Committee of United Kannada Sangha, Australia will serve as reception Committee.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, law minister T B Jayachandra, Kannada culture minister Umashree, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Karntaka former minister Krishna J Palemar, Kannada Development Authority chairman Professor S G Siddaramayya, sandalwood actor Ramesh Arvind and others will be invited to attend 2-day mega Kannada cultural event in Australia.
A cultural troupe of about 70 people from Karnataka and across India will attend the mega event. The office bearers of Kannada Sangha functioning in different nations will also attend the event.
Kannada books that are published during 2015 and 2016 will be released on the occasion.
The chairman of Convention will be selected based on his/her contributions to Kannada literature and culture. Those who presided the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Convention, former chairman of Academy or Authority, veteran achievers of folklore, retired/present vice chancellors of universities will be considered to chair the convention in Australia.
Global Man – 2016 Award will be conferred to artistes, litterateurs, doctors, technologist and social activists in recognition of their contributions to respective sphere as part of World Kannada Cultural Convention.
