Udupi: Community Fund and Education Fund for the Welfare of Fisher Women

Udupi, 07 March 2011: “Government is preparing various projects for the welfare of fisher women during the budget and the proposal for the development of total 50 fish markets shows the priority given to the development on fishing” said Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation President Yashpal A. Suvarna.

 

He was speaking upon inaugurating the Community Health Fund and Education Fund program founded by the Udupi Taluk Fresh Fish Marketers Sangha at Udupi Vadhiraja Complex. In last year federation had distributed Rs. 90 lakhs funds, this year one crore fund will be granted, he assured.

 

 

Legal advisor of the Sangha Lawyer Manjunath S. K. Saligrama spoke and said that if fisher women get united and fight for their rights, women society will be able to grow financially and socially. Udupi Taluk Women Fresh Fish Marketing Federation Sangha President Baby H. Saliyan presided over the function. In her presidential address she said that, with the cooperation of the women members of the Sangha, with a amount of Rs. 5 lakhs, an Education Fund and Health Fund has been founded.

 

Vice President of the Sangha Appi M. Bangera, Treasurer Jayanthi Saliyan, Joint Secretaries Shantha Suvarna and Jayanthi Gurudas Bangera, Edvisory Committee Members Suresh B. Kunder, Narayan Kunder and Harish G. Karkera were also present on the occasion.

 

Cheif Advisor of the Sangha Ramesh Kidiyoor welcomed the gathering. Prakash Suvarna compeered the program. Chief Secretary Lakshmi Anand proposed vote of thanks.
