Smart MLC from ’Smart City’ all set to be green power generator!
Mangaluru, 30 Sep 2015: Showing the way to others, MLC Ivan D’Souza is all set to become self-reliant in power generation and will soon be a feeder of power units to the Mescom!
Yes, D’ Souza has turned to renewal source of energy in a big way. With solar roof panels in place, D’ Souza has decided to make his residence in Valencia run on green energy.
This is for the first time that an elected representative from the region is making such a significant move.
The net metering interconnection plan was launched by the Mescom as part of the state government’s energy policy, where it allows a consumer to produce solar power and sell excess units to Mescom.
The MLC who claims to pay Rs 6,000 per month as electricity bill states that the move will not only help him save money but he will eke out great satisfaction of being a part of green campaign.
The 3KW solar energy production unit, he days is sufficient for his house and he will be in a position to sell out the extra units to the Mescom.
"It costs less than Rs 3 lakh to install 3KW solar power unit for a house. The initial investment will be recovered within a few years as there is no need of electricity bill payment," says the MLC adding that a solar unit will last for more than 25 years.
The Mescom will pay Rs 9.56 per unit for the power. If a consumer wants to avail government subsidy, the power purchase rate will be Rs 7.20 per unit.

Very good experiment of Solar energy. But D.K. Udupi are covered with clouds, rains and some times heavy due. Then if the back up is exhauseted means what is the fate? Can we give up electric power completely? Instead if the ESCOMS arrange for Solar energy projects in Open areas where the clound are rare and effects of solar light is bright, the produce could be linked to Power lines and provided to the consumers. This I thank Mr Ivan D souza would appreciate and take the matter with the Government to have units at every district levels, so that the electric power problems could be mitigated. Mr MLC, please raise your voice in State vidhan Parishat. let the government hear your and our cry. Good Luck. | |

This is the right way of development. Solar energy is cheap and now we have technology to harness it. I am sure many houses in Mangalore and Udupi will opt for solar energy as prime source of energy than depending on conventional sources of energy |
