Moodubelle, 17 January 2011: This was not for the first time that the villagers, rickshaw owners and drivers, shop-keepers and Moodubelle Melpete Friends had collectively joined hands to clear the mud and dirt that have been not only an eyesore but also causing inconvenience to pedestrians and vehicles at the junction in front of the main gate of the Church. They had done it twice earlier and once it was reported in Bellevision last year.
On Sunday, 16th January 2011, from about 2 pm till late in the evening around 30 concerned villagers, especially the rickshaw owners and drivers, shop-keepers and Moodubelle Melpete Friends collectively began their mission to clear the mounds of mud that had gathered due to the flow of rain water during the extended rainy season to the low lying four way junction. They collected spades, pickaxes, baskets and water-pipe to dig and clear the road of the unwanted mud and wash it clean so that the road would be even and would facilitate smooth flow of traffic, enable the people to walk easily and spare the neighbouring shops and people from the trouble of dust.
When asked as to what prompted them to take up this mission, Varadraj Kamath of Moodubelle Melpete Friends and himself a shop-keeper at the corner of the junction said that he and other affected people have been representing to the Grama Panchayat authorities regarding the inconvenience that was being caused by the mounds of mud and dirt and have been requesting them to clear it. However, he said that as there was no response either from the Panchayat authorities or any other political parties, they decided to join their hands and do the work of clearing the mounds of mud and levelling the junction by themselves. Around 25 to 30 volunteers participated in this work which shows that if the authorities do not respond to the problems of the villagers, they can solve some of their problems by themselves in this manner.

Valerian Lobo has established a vital point here. If every shop keeper and the residents keep their yard clean (Many do) by taking care of the disposals and the garbage, it will attribute to a good landscaping. A beautiful village and the street will be loved by residents as well as outsiders! A proper system of garbage collection is very essential to our Moodubelle.

Dear Hemphil, Good Day! I partially agree with you. At least some could be useful. Million dollar question is how to make them useful and get few benefits to us and the society!! We should keep trying…. Honestly your provocation might help in this regard to some extent.

Well done belle boys. it is how you musty lead. Great Leaders did the same like work before they became big!. I recollect our experience when we were studying the Belle High School. Every one had in twos thousands of baskets of mud from the mund in front of the School building before passing out SSLC. Today there is abeautiful ground to play with the sweatings of hundred of students. Today Belle is great and bellevision is also great because of past labour and present efforts. There is not reason to grumble at the corrupt politicians so far as we donot stop bribing-giving them extra money for the job they do. It is those who pay more breed the corrupt. Ronald Sabi has done great wonder behinf his home, visit and see. That is greater!

Great job Belle youth. You have shown the true love for our village. Hemphil, instead of desperately criticizing one elected lady all the time, analyze...was it any better previous years? Why are you blessing another side all the time which did no better! Was it not ugly for several years? New president has not even completed one year! May be there are obstacles! Give them some time as you had big patience for the previous team! Go after the corrupt people rather than ...... I think there is no simple permanent solution for the above problem. I feel the root cause is terrain where sediment settling occurs during rainy season like a pool. We need a scientific system which felicitates surface water drainage channels. For sure budget for this is beyond the punchayath limit. You and me along with Belle people and the Panchyath should urge higher authorities ( MP/MLA’s) without keeping any political party affiliation. Moodubelle has lot of intelligent Engineers. They too should provide some practical solutions. Otherwise one day of the every year we have to argue on this subject.

Where is the Panchayat President and office bearers. They too pass by the same road daily but not bothered. When they come again asking for the votes and that time show them the door. They are good for sitting inside offices and doing petty politics. May God bless Moodubelle
