Udupi: Christian association flays case against teachers

Udupi, 24 December 2010: Udupi branch of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association in Bangalore strongly condemned the arrest of headmaster and class teacher of Milagres High School and alleged the charges against both have been conspired by Sangh Pariwar and its allies.

 

Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Association President Louis Lobo said the incident had taken place on December 14 and the boy Akash studying in 8th standard was punished for not attending special classes along with other boys. Akash was not punished because he belongs to Dalit community.

 

There was no religious atrocity in the act of the class teacher or headmaster of the school. Akash was questioned like any other student who missed special classes, he added.

 

 

“Malpe Police Station Police Sub Inspector arrested the headmaster without informing the management of the school. He was forced to write confession in the presence of DeputySP Jayanth Shetty and other police officials. Parents of the boy had no objection. However, even after signing confession, FIR was lodged against Headmaster Paul R Lobo under IPC Section 295A and 324, both are non-bailable warrants. A case has been booked against class teacher Marceline Serrao under the charges of religious criticism and caste criticism, both are totally untrue,” Lobo said.

 

The entire episode indicates the evil intensions of Sangh Pariwar and Bhajrang Dal to disturb Christmas and New Year celebrations. There is no limit for atrocities against minorities after BJP came to power in the State. “We are well prepared to tackle all sorts of evil plans by these communal parties. We are united to fight against the atrocities that are meted out to minorities.

 

The matter has been represented to State Human Rights Commission,” Lobo added.

 

A protest was organised by Udupi branch of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association, Bangalore; Catholic Sabha, Udupi; Komu Sauharda Vedike, Minorities Vedike, Udupi before SP office on Thursday.
