Udyavara: National level Kabaddi Tournament (Men and Women) off to a sparkling start

Udyavara, Udupi, 13 December 2010: National level kabbaddi tournament for men and women, organized by SK Sports club Udyavara, pulled a sparkling start here in Udyavara. The programme began with a welcome speech by Errol Gonsalves. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Sudarshan - President of Kabaddi Association of Udupi Taluk mentioned that, it is a matter of pride for India and our district since Mamatha Poojary, played a major role in helping India win a gold medal and also won the yellow metal in the finals of Asian Games. Kabbaddi is losing importance and is becoming less popular he added.

 

The Chief Guest Ms. Manvi Agarwal, who is very famous among kannada audience due to her reality show " Pyate Hudigiru Halli Life" and " Halli Hyda Pyatege Banda" was also present. She said she has been a huge fan of Kabbaddi from the very beginning and was the captain of her college team. She wished all the contestants all the very best.

 

 

 

The Inauguration was done by breaking of coconut by Yashpal Suvarna, Manvi Agarwal and Manjunath Udyavara. The inaugural match was played in the presence of the dignitaries. Among the teams participated in this tournament, there were 12 teams in male category and 6 teams in female category. The first place in the male category will carry a cash prize of Rs. 30,000 and the first place in female category will carry Rs. 15,000. The second place will be a cash prize of Rs. 9,000 and Individual prizes will also be given.

 

Display of fireworks were also held. The Kabaddi event was telecasted live by V4U channel. KPCC member Manjunath Udyavar, Industrialists Vilas Nayak and Yashpal Suvarna, Corporation President Kiran Kumar, Sudhakar Shetty, Sudarshan and Prem Margaret were present on this occassion.
