Addressing the Pratibha Puraskar programme of the Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha at Pithrodi, where he distributed the scholarship to the fishermen students, Yashpal A. Suvarna, President of the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District Fishmermen’s Federation said that inorder to make progress in society, the fishermen students should be given encouragement and support from different social organizations. On this occasion 64 fishermen students were given the scholarship.
Under the Matshyshraya Programme the State Government has sanctioned 1250 houses for fishermen in the Udupi District. Under this scheme funds were distributed to 37 beneficiaries of Baindoor under the leadership of the MLA of Baindoor-Lakshmi Narayana.
Speaking at the annual NSS camp of the Vidyaniketana College, Kaup at Saraswati Mandira School at Uchchila, journalist Prakash Suvarna Katapady said that the news has relevance if they are reported in time. If the news are reported much later they lose the relevance and people may lose interest in the newspapers.
Under the D. Devaraja Arasu Backward Communities Development Corporation’s Microfinance Programme different fishermen’s associations were issued cheques in the office of the Kaup MLA, Lalaji R. Mendon.
A young man named Sandeep (18) who had gone for a swim in the Garadikere near Paudyenagudde in Katapady along with four of his friends was drowned on the Diwali day. A large number of people were seen gathered on the bank of the lake as efforts were being made by the authorities.
