Udupi/ M’belle: Enthusiastic response to Teachers Day celebration in St. Lawrence PU College

Udupi, 06 Sep 2014: Teachers Day was observed in St. Lawrence Composite PU College on 6 September 2014 with great enthusiasm from both students and teachers. The programme was jointly organized by the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) and students.
Prior to the stage programme, the PTA and students organized fun-games for the teachers from 9.30 am onwards in which teachers of both PU college and high school willingly and enthusiastically participated while the students cheered their favourite teachers to win the competition.
The stage programme was held at 11 am. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence educational Institutions presided over the function. Mrs. Theresa D’Almeida was the chief guest. Alphonse K. Alva, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Joseph Martis, President of the PTA, J.B. Miranda, member of the Managing Committee, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath, Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, teaching and non-teaching staff of both PU college and high school and student leaders were on the dais.
Following the welcome by the member of the PTA, Goplakrishna Nayak, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes unveiled the portrait of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and offered floral tribute followed by the guests.
Shiny Alva, PU students on behalf of the students, Mrs. Sushma Wagle on behalf of the PTA and Mrs. Shyamala B.N. on behalf of the teachers spoke on the importance of the Teachers Day celebration.
Prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes to the winners in ‘Funny Games’ for the teachers.
On this occasion certificates were handed over to two high school students who had won medals in the recently held Block Level Rural Competitions under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan(RGKA) for the year 2014-15. Hanumantha had secured first position in Discuss Throw and Anuradha had secured third position in 800 race.
The PU girls Football team which had won the championship at the Taluk level competition held at St. Mary’s PU College, Shirva were handed over the Trophy and certificates.
Mrs. Theresa D’Almeida in her message to the teachers and students highlighted the contribution of teachers in shaping the character and life of students and asked the latter to recognize this contribution and pray for their teachers and also remember gratefully their contribution.
Those teachers who have already retired and who will be retiring during this academic year were honoured by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes. These teachers include, Mrs. Hilda Aranha (high school-retired on 31 August 2014), Mrs. Sarojini Kamath(will retire on 30 November 2014), Kamlakar K.(PUC-will retire on 31 January 2015), Srinivas Ballal (high school-will retire on 30 April 2015) and Mrs. Shyamala B.N.(PUC-will retire on 31 May 2015).
Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes distributed mementos to all the teaching and non-teaching staff. In the lucky draw, Navin Correa, lecturer in History PUC was declared as the ‘Lucky Teacher’.
Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes gave a brief Teachers Day message. Joseph Martis gave away mementos to the guests.
