  • Kageri says textbooks being prepared as per NCF guidelines

Dharwad, 10 January 2011: Schools in the State will have new syllabi from the next academic year, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said here on Sunday.

Textbooks, as per the directions of the National Curriculum Framework, are being prepared for Classes I to X and will be ready by 2012-13, Kageri said at a press conference.

Work on the books is on, he said. And experts are being engaged to draw up the syllabus pattern. The revised syllabi will incorporate suggestions of eminent teachers and academics. Tips from a cross section of people, connected to academics, are also being sought.

Hereafter, there will be no delay in the production of school textbooks.

This year, a technical hitch had delayed the issue of books to the students at the start of the academic year. The error was rectified later and the books reached students well before the examination dates. There is no shortage of teachers in schools across the State, Kageri said. Instructors’ retirement age has been increased from 58 to 60 years. Teachers will now be required only against vacancies that arise, and such slots will be filled immediately, he said. The State Government will also grant permission to private aided schools to fill 3,000 vacancies of teachers in them.

On extra-curricular activities in schools, Kageri said a proposal has been submitted to  Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, requesting funds for distribution of free computers to students coming first, second, and third in the districts in  SSLC examinations.

To get students to write neat, the current academic year is being observed as one for “Clear Reading-Clean Writing” at the primary and secondary levels. Kageri said stringent action will be taken against the guilty for the irregularities reported at Gurukul Sanskrit College.
