Mangalore: New year party till half past midnight

Mangalore, 30 December 2010: The new year parties in the city on December 31 can go on between 8 p.m. and 12.30 a.m., according to Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh. Mr. Singh told presspersons on Wednesday that in view of the zilla panchayat and five taluk panchayat elections, the new year parties had to start after 8 p.m. “We want the parties to end by 12.30 a.m. (on January 1,2011),” Mr. Singh said.
On Tuesday, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav had ordered for observing “Liquor Prohibition Day” between 7 a.m. of December 30 and 8 p.m. of December 31.
This order will apply to all clubs including those which had taken CL2 and C9 permits issued by the Excise Department, Mr. Yadav said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Liquor prohibition day would be observed on January 4 between 6 a.m. and midnight. The votes would be counted on January 4, the order said. Mr. Singh said on December 31, the police would be strict on cases such as over-speeding and reckless driving. He asked those who consume liquor to avoid driving vehicles. Mr. Singh said the police had talks with members of taxi association and had asked them to provide enough taxis at the places where parties were organised.
