Karnataka BJP leaders vow to ’throw the Governor out’

Bangalore, 22 December 2010: The war of words between Governor H R Bhardwaj and the ruling BJP took an ugly turn on Tuesday with the ruling party threatening to’’throw the Governor out’’ accusing him of deliberately misleading people ahead of the zilla and taluk panchayat polls.

 

 

“We have decided to throw this governor out. Never in the history of this country has a governor behaved in this manner. He (Bhardwaj) is not only acting against democratic principles, but also is insulting the office of the governor,” BJP State president K S Eshwarappa told reporters on the sidelines of an election campaign at Chikkalaya  in  Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district.

 

The governor and the BJP government are at loggerheads over the alleged land scams and illegal mining in the State.

 

Bhardwaj has expressed displeasure over Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa’s brief replies  on these issues. The governor’s move has embarrassed the ruling party ahead of the panchayat elections.

 

Further, Eshwarappa charged Bhardwaj with blackmailing the chief minister by seeking unnecessary information. “The chief minister has furnished all the information sought by the governor. Still he (Bhardwaj) is not satisfied. He is acting like an Opposition party member,” he alleged.  The party state unit has decided to meet national leaders  to discuss the issue.

 

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and MP D B Chandre Gowda said the party has decided to lodge a complaint with the Centre and the President of India against the behaviour of the governor after the completion of the panchayat polls.

 

Gowda was speaking in Bangalore after releasing a video CD brought out by the BJP depicting the government’s achievements in the last two- and-a-half year.

 

The governor is trying to create a favourable atmosphere for a particular political party during the elections by unnecessarily raising some issues, he said. “A person occupying the Constitutional position should not criticise the government without any reason. He (Bhardwaj) is speaking as if the government has committed some grave mistake. It is not proper on his part to make such adverse statements when the model code of conduct is in force,” he said.
